question: what's the difference between an 'anime' and a 'cartoon'? cos as far as i can tell, they're pretty much the same thing. the only way i've found to differentiate between them is that most people use the word 'anime' to mean animation/cartoons exclusively from japan, despite the fact that the japanese themselves use the word 'anime' to mean cartoons in general and that 'anime' itself is merely an abbreviation of the word 'animation' which basically means the same as 'cartoon' ...x_x

Yes u r right. the word 'anime' would b translated as 'cartoon' in english. american people refer to Japanese cartoons as 'anime' mainly because of the completely different drawing style and plot layouts. Most anime is viewed by people of all ages, and tend to follow a story plot. American cartoons are more for children and every episode is completely random. Take Spongebob for example. and then there are some that used to be a comic, like Batman. Avatar has more of an 'anime' feel to it because of it's story plot, drawing style (big eyes) and that each episode is a continuation of the previou
