The best anime with the saddest ending

I don't think it was sad. It was happy because the world was not consumed by war, but rather it focused on world hunger and the people of the world. I think personally the only sad thing is that Shirley died earlier in the series. I don't mind that Lelouch died because he meant that to happen so that the world would thrust all their anger on him instead of the other leaders at the time.

I think the ending of the Code Geass series was the best ending to an anime I have seen thus far. I liked how Karen was able to continue on with her life as a regular school girl and not a war veteran. The only thing that I wish did not happen was for Rolo to kill Shirley.

Absolutely amazing series, on par ending with Gungrave, which is hard to accomplish. I will miss this storyline. ( i wouldn't mind watchin Lelouch taking on L' in a chess match lol )

yes it was a great ending, i wouldn't say the best lol... still to this day my fav anime, with ending that made me clapp is yu yu hakusho. but man im glad i saw it, at end i was wondering a bit was he alive though, with the origami and stuff, but who knows. i will be lookinh up writer to see what other material he/she has produced

The best storyline, I wasn't expecting that the ending would end up like that, and so much to say, Lelouch was the true Hero, sacrificing the king will end the Chess game, and that will settle the result which will be the new game of life.

This has been a very unique journey, This is really one of the most mind blowing twisted Anime I've ever seen. Truly an amazing story, I loved the ending as well. I agree Shirley shouldn't had died. And this this at least be in the top ten of all Anime's!

This was a really great series. The writing was superior. On par with Death Note in almost ever aspect. Everything become full circle, the very first episode explained it. One most sacrifice the king to end the game.

i would like to think
that the ending, where C.C. was on the hay cart?
I would think that Lelouch is the one maneuvering the horses
because A: it doesn't show his face
and B: C.C. spoke to lelouch, who supposedly died.

And an extra note.... don't ruin this theory for me please ^^

Not only does leloush die but his best friend is forced to be the one guy that he hated most of all because he can never show his face again. So there just wasn't one sacrifice there was really 2.
