Digimon Frontier Episode 1

Im confused... where did the actual digivolving digimon go? Is there a series before this and after digimon adventures 2? what the hell?

For people watching this series for the first time and have watched the previous series:

In this series the children become the digimon. It is a take off of the Season 3 (Tamers) idea that humans could merge with their digimon (their final form) only this time they fight alone as the digimon themselves. Humans BECOME the digimon. There is no traditional digivolving except for Spirit Evolution and Slide Evolution. None main characters are seen to digivolve but not the main cast.
