Long ago, Gaia, the collective will of the Earth, made a pact with Brunestud of the Crimson Moon to protect Earth from humanity and its destructive nature. In the year 3000, the earth died, and Brunestud and the Aristoteles waged war on humanity, wiping out nearly all life on earth and causing widespread devastation that would change history for all time.
In modern day, a group of magi discovered the existence of this future eventuality. They decided that they would need to find a way to sever Gaia's contract with Brunestud and reform the world to their choosing in order to save mankind. They created a ritual known as the Conception, in which the earth itself would become a Reality Marble, able to be shaped and defined by the laws they would set down. They would use it to give humanity hope once more.
The consequences were dire.
The earth indeed was formed into a Reality Marble known as the World Egg, fetal stage of the earth, created by the Conception in preparation for its eventual rebirth. However, the state of the earth made it difficult for most life to survive, and many plants, animals, and people died. The world was left in this devastated state until a worthy person could step forward to usher in a new age.
For a person to create the new world, they must possess a powerful inner philosophy that encompasses a set of natural laws that the new world would be based upon: this is called a Reason. The seven that the World Egg found to have the strongest and worthiest Reasons were given marks called the Angel Ranks, along with one that embodied the ideal of the end of mankind, the Absolute Void. However, it could not solely rest its fate on these eight chosen. Any who were strong enough to survive could usurp the Angel Ranks and steal their marks to form the World according to their Reason.
With man forced to ban together to survive in this primal earth, the setting to decide the fate of the earth begins in the last great city of mankind. New Rome…
