His Dad is still alive and a shinigami, he not a full time shinigami he just helps when in his town every thing gets really out of hand , but usually he know Ichigo can take care of it, though Ichigo doesn't know about his Dad, his mother died awhile back from a hollow attack i think, she was just a normal person
