Hmm, suprisingly I liked the following JDrama:

1) Mei chan no Shitsuji (Mei chans Butler)
I thought this show was funny and down-to-earth geeky with the usual corny tear-jerking JDrama does :-). Not sure if it is a drama to put out during fairly bad economic times though.

2) Mr. Brain
I thought this was a good experimental format for JDrama. It features the legendary KimuTaku (from JBoyband SMAP) has a smattering of NCIS/CIS/24 feel to it. Dorky yet witty.

3) Boss
Was definitely my favorite so far this year. It leans a bit more towards more serious NCIS and not the typical Japanese detective show format. Yuki Amami who plays the lead is brilliant, career-minded, funny and every bit of woman (I hope this is a growing trend).

These are much different from what cheesecrayons graciously provided, but I hope you find something you like. Shoot me a reply and let me know what you thought of anything you tried!
