hidan is not strong but he is arguably the most dangerous after Pein.
does that make sense? the akatsuki is a fictional group and this 'Vs. thread' is purely hypothetical, right? therefore rank means NOTHING, Kidomaru IS definitely stronger than Hidan...as a matter of fact he and Kimi are BROKEN( but so is H & K).
continuing, all four ninjas were killed by chuunin or genin. anyway hidan
Could have lost to asuma but asuma was trying to protect shika & co. the fight was inconclusive especially since kakuzu helped after hidan LOST.
And lastly,
Hidan was let in akatsuki for two reasons: 1- so kakuzu could 'pimp' him. 2- hidan wont die so kakuzu wont need a new partner. Hidan is weak but he makes kakuzu twice as strong!!!
