I agree with you about those Naruto Fanboys. They are the reason why Naruto/Bleach/One Piece is so overrated imo. Now don't get me wrong here, I like watching them too. I guess those are just easy on the eyes for young kids to watch. But I prefer something more deeply emotional or psychological personally. For example, a primary schooler wouldn't have the faintest idea when he/she watches a deeply psychological anime like Death Note.
I guess it's all to do with the person's mental age
Anyways, here's my list.
1. Death Note - the psychological cat-and-mouse game between Light and L!
2. Claymore - emotional and action-packed; likeable characters
3. GTO - hella funny, emotional at times
4. DBZ - memories from childhood
5. Chobits - funny, almost hentai-like Xd but decent plot imo
6. Elfen Lied - only 13 episodes but just hardcore anime XD
7. Darker than Black - interesting plot and settings
8. Blood+ - good in all areas except it has some boring episodes...
9. One Piece - Undoubtedly the greatest and most successful on-going series
10. Naruto - Easy to watch and understand, is good for kids
