PHS is a device that effects the spirit particles of the user, and causes them to change how they are perceived by others. Movement of spirit energy can be detected by following particles in what direction they're moving and the intensity. However, by finding the right amount of absorption and drain, the familiar signals are changed into unintelligible gibberish of signals, or exactly what an experienced user wants others to see. PHS is a serum that is injected into the user's system as a stimulator of spirit particle activity. The serum contains microscopic cells designed to replicate exclusively on spirit-energy carrying cells and increase their speed or output. However, their power supply for this process is the cell itself, so the fluctuations of "power-up" and down are evened out to meet the original power. The cells are coated with a chemical that reacts to this process by mirroring the opposite effect, thus when a cell fluctuates up (and instantly goes neutral due to the drain) the coatings on the cells nearby diminish in activity, and vice-versa. The process results in an extremely confusing, constant fluctuation of activity that renders any attempt to percieve the user's motive useless. Those with more experience with it can change to signals to match what they want the enemy to see by fluctuating spirit energy manually.
