this is the last part of the story of helping hands it should have been show as a sketch but for unknown reason they told it as a story
painful gossip
A few weeks have passed after the rescue of the old man. And a lot has happened in that time one of those things the point of view of the old and and his wife about the eccentric person who's name was apparently David and his character was more then only being an eccentric. Because of that the old man who's name was Janus and his wife Helena, went to drink coffee at David's place or David came to them and when they did that they discussed about a lot of things.
But nothing goes well in that village near the shore, and people started to talk about the old man Janus and his wife Helena, when they passed them or even when David passed those villagers, David didn't bother to find out what they were talking about since he was always the talk of the day since his cloths and his way of acting was not what the villagers wanted it to be. But for Janus and Helena it was different they didn't know what to think about it, it was for them the first time to be in the center of the gossiping of the village. The story so it seems what was going around was that the two had changed their thought about what it was to live in a village like this and how to treat other people but also that the villagers shouldn't trust them anymore because of their friendship that eccentric.
On a weekday Helena when shopping at the local supermarket and she saw a few of her friends talking to each other she walked to them and greeted them but those friends turned around and walked a few steps away before turning there backs so clear to her. Helena was stunned she went inside of the supermarket and did her groceries, when she left the supermarket they were still standing there and she could hear them talk “what is wrong with those to” “yeah but I am sure it is David’s ….” “then why are they listening … “ “we shouldn't trust them ….”Helena walked closer the group went silent again, Helena signed and went home she filled with sadness why are they talking like that I don't understand.
Helena arrived home and put away her groceries Janus thought there was something strange about the actions on his wife, so that evening when they were drinking their tea and talked about the day he asked what was wrong with her. Then Helena told her husband the story what happened at the supermarket and Janus felt also sadness coming over him because the villagers didn't seem to understand a thing. Then he said to his wife “tomorrow is the day that David is coming here we should tell him this and ask what we can do about it” Helena nodded, and after that they went to bed.
The next morning David came to visited, but when he entered the living room there wasn't the normal atmosphere of gentleness and comfort. Helena and Janus looked a few times to each other to find out when it was the right time to start explaining it to David. Then the old man signed and started talking “ my wife Helena was yesterday out shopping at the supermarket and she saw some friends she greeted them of course but they didn't want to talk to her and after she did her groceries she heard them gossiping about her and about us. They are telling that we shouldn't go near them anymore because we are also friends with you now, David. What must we do? Is there even a solution to this problem?”the old Janus ask the last two questions with pain in his voice.
David thought for a few moments and said “there is always a solution, always but are you willing to take a risk with me to do so? “
“will that make the people of this village act normal around us again? Then yes I … we are willing to take that risk”answered the old Janus”but don't do anything rash”he followed.
“I wouldn't dare do something rash”answered David laughing “but will you come to the city center this afternoon? I am planning ask the people the why”
“we will be there”
“then I take my leave and see you there” said David and he left the old couple speechless .
That afternoon David walked to the city center with his best cloths on and searched for a high place to stand and been seen. When he found one it was near a tree so there was plenty of shades, he climbed on it and he then took a deep breath and let the air slip out very slowly before he raised his voice and asked loud”why is it so strange for all of you that the old man Janus and I became friends? And is that reason enough to not talk to his wife and him since then? And does it give you the right to talk about their backs? I ask you all these things because I don't see a valid reason and I want to know it. Tell me those things we did wrong or what you thing with did wrong in your eyes to OUR faces so that we can defend us against it or answer to it. That is the reason I am standing before you this afternoon because I don't want to talk behind your back to find my answers my parents learned me to ask if you want to know something about a person and not go to others who might know it.
“
but the people of that town looked the eccentric David in the eyes and they all thought how dare he question our doing we did nothing wrong, that is your way of thinking that is the reason. But they kept silent.
“then”David followed his speech” what can I do about the sadness that the old Janus and Helena feel because of your ignoring them, after the accident that I brought Janus home. Is it that I talk on the way home to Janus to keep him from thinking to much about his wounds and after that we kept meeting each other for coffee or tea? Tell me the reason what is wrong with that?
But if you don't answer before nightfall I want you to be normal to Helena and Janus when morning comes again.”
the hours passed and still the people didn't talk to David, at some point Janus and Helena walked towards him and they both thanked him for what he did for them and kept him company in those hours.
But still no reaction of the village people. David started to wonder if there was a chance that they would change their action towards to old Janus and his Helena.
Will they be able to change their thoughts these blockheads of villagers or are they too locked in the thoughts that everything that is strange in their eyes is wrong and should be ignored and talked about? And bring sadness to those involved? I don't know but I am still looking for that answer.
