Default Forum Suggestion

I jut have a small suggestions for the forums.

One thing I noticed yesterday was there is no thread revival rule. What I mean by this is that people may post in threads which have been dead for years. I suggest there be a rule created only allowing people to post in threads which have been active for x months. This could easily be maintained by editing the forums in the AdminCP and changing the show threads time option in the desired sections to x months.

With this, the forums would look less cluttered and there should hopefully be less duplicate thread problems.

Also sorry if this is in the wrong section, it wasn't really clear where or how to post suggestions. Hope you take this into consideration.

Suggestion/Discussion Thread.

Is a big old one.
But what are you saying? That people should no longer be able to see threads past a certain date? Say "Best cat food?" was last posted in 2 years ago, this will now be invisible to normal users?

I disagree with this idea, mainly because you can do a quick search, find an old thread, post in it without creating a new one.
The majority of the sections have been cleaned up, anyway.

I just don't really see the point in posting in a discussion which has been dead for years when you could create a new one. But maybe that's just me.

Well the discussion topic will be the same, the thread is the same as the one you want to make a duplicate of.
Whether it's active or not doesn't matter: just make it active.

But eventually we will get to a point where just about every possible threads in certain sections have been made, this would mean a huge amount of threads to search through to prevent duplicate posting...

Depends on the section really.

I cleared the General Anime, Naruto, Other Anime Shows sections by about 70 pages of threads each and I no longer allow duplicates there. I also removed some old threads with slight interest, same thing did Pad Frank with the Manga section.

Your point stands organization wise, but there's no point to go trough the Lounge, Fanclubs, or Poll Gallore, where there is no actual topic but random conversations and everyone can BUMP anything anytime.

What I'm trying to say is; The forums are organized where they need to be and loose where they do also.

At the top of the page there's a "Search this forum" function.
Click "Advanced Search" and under keyword select "Search titles only".
Search for what thread you want to create, if you get no hits then go nuts.

I wasn't proposing it for all sections, you would have to decide which sections it would work for and which it would not.

As I just said, action has already being taken and is also continuing to do so. We don't need a system to rule anything old out by itself and maybe delete valuable threads, moderators are doing just fine.
