strongest "under the radar" character

I would say Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryūsai (the Commander of the 13 squads aka old dude with staff) We only saw him once release his zanpakuto in shikai form but never bankai....I wonder what type of bankai would it be

Wonderweiss, he's made to seem almost autistic, and very innocent-minded, but when you look at the power he had in that simple bara, and the way he took a blast from benihime and remained entirely unharmed, he's a pretty strong fella.

I expect far more to come from him

Kuritsuchi is a captain, so I don't believe he falls under the radar, neither does Ikkaku.

The other lieutenant in Kenpachi's squad, Yamichira or whatever his name is, he is probably the stongest under the radar character. In the episode where he fights the guy with the 69 tatoo on his face, he says I really didn't want to have to do this, don't tell anybody you saw this. Then it only shows him after he defeats the guy with the 69 tat. I would have to believe he used bankai.

its not bankai, its just his shikai, but the rest of squad 11 doesnt know what his shikai's ability is. Squad 11 is like a physical combat squad, and its frowned upon to have anything other than a physical type zanpakuto, so he hides the fact that his is a kidou type zanpakuto. his sword splits into 4 little blade things, and everyone in 11th squad assumes thats all his shikai does, but it actually has this life draining power thing.

Yeah the fact that it absorbs the opponent's spirit and gives it to him, explains why he was completely healed after that fight, so you are probably right that he didn't use bankai. He might not even be capable, as he stated in an episode that he doesn't get along with his zanpaktou very well because it is almost as vain as he is.
