I think it was implied that Ikkaku's stronger. Wasn't Renji begging Ikkaku to fill a captain spot because he was the only one close?

If I recall Ikkaku and Renji had a sparing match at some point. I think it was a flashback. Ikkaku was owning him in the spar. So based on that and the fights they've been in, I would have to give it to Ikkaku.

well, Renji gave ichigo a harder time then ikkaku did, and while it's true ikkaku didnt use bankai, renji didnt even have one at the time. Also if you consider the match ups, renji has a range advantage in both shikai and bankai. I dunno though, as stated above, it definitely is implied that renji thinks ikkaku is stronger (this is probably partly because ikkaku trained him) either way I think it would be pretty close. also after the time skip, renji seems closer to captains level, imo. he defeated his enemy with a lot more ease then ikkaku and over all just seemed to have a stronger presense after the time skip. well, we'll have to wait for more support though. |

Well, Renji is one rank over Ikkaku, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. In an all-out match, I think Ikkaku would win(he's had his bankai for ages longer after all), but it's hard to say since we've seen nothing of Renji's new abilities post-timeskip.
