I think the vizard are just a bunch o' bragdolls. "Hi! I supposedly can keep my mask on much longer than any other vizard and I've trained for a hundred years." even though Ichigo who's been a para-huntsman for just about 3/4 of a year can keep it on longer.

Actually, Ichigo has come up with a clever ruse. When he feels that no one will notice he uses his bankai's insane speed to switch himself with an exact clone, which continues the fight, thus renewing his mask duration. This also explains why we never see him go super-speed anymore.
