wouldnt count out the option that a zanpacto being a spirit being can refom from human to animal either

[not even related to anyone else's convo's] I was looking up the work halcyon like what Orihime writes in her goodbye letter. It says the adj. yadda yadda we know! but as a noun its referred to as a mythical bird identified with the kingfisher. Lol i know TK had no intention of that lol haha... kingfisher lol
