he is a captain didnt you see tha white thing hanging off his arm and i think he saud he was captain class that episode

the sign of captain class is the white jaket that all captians wear and when u see him fight the grand fisher he has one just riped up and only on his right arm plus kill such a powerful hollow/anccur without releasing is zompokto.. plus he did so with one atk

I think he was an ex captain, however when he met ichigo's mom he decided to throw away the sword and urahara helped him.

Yeah, I think he is a captain and he possibly lost his powers from wearing a giggai or w/e you call those things.
