Character Discussion - Isshin Kurosaki(Spoilers)

So, to recap this thread for those too lazy to read all 58 pages:

Isshin was most likely a captain, or certainly at least at captain strength. If he was a captain, he was most likely the 10th squads captain, or part of the royal guard.

Once and for all, when Rukia's captain says Ichigo looks familiar, it is because Ichigo looks quite a bit like Kaien Shiba.


Now for my theory. I believe that Isshin became the captain of the 10th squad after the events of the turn back the pendulum arc. While on a mission here on earth, he saves his future wife, and falls in love with her. He keeps the captains robe, but removes the squad insignia, because he is no longer in command of anyone. He contacts Urahara, and commissions him to make him a gigai that will hide him and turn him into a human so he can woo (insert wife's name here).

Through Urahara, he stays abreast of the goings on of soul society and the spirit world in general.

As far as his relationship with Ryuken Ishida, I think they met in a similar way that Ishida and Kurosaki met, fighting hollows. It was probably Ryuken that got Isshin into medicine, and helped him set up his clinic.

10 squad's captain was most likely to be the spot. It wasn't revealed on the TBTP arc who was the captain before Toushiro or before Toushiro..and another space was still unknown.. the Kenpachi before Kenpachi still bothers me if it has something to do with the present storyline.

If on the 10th squad, he was just promoted and entered the squad zero. And his mission being on the royal guard was to protect Karakura town where the king's key can be created.

lets just call it a day and say 90% he was in zero squad, 5% a captain for a short time, 5% he gained his powers like ichigo did(some how). there sums everything you guys already said

ok i am seeing a lot of suggestions that Isshin is the Captain of squad 4, which makes a little sense, except unohana has been the only captain of squad 4, as seen in the TBTP (Turn Back the Pendulum) arc, my best guess is that he was the former captain of squad 11, because they say that the squad 11 captain is a lazy bum like Isshin in TBTP, and i know what you are all saying, Zaraki killed him, but i believe that he faked his own death and escaped to the human world, then he could have gotten a gigai from urahara and then so on and so forth...

well going by "faked death" i guess, he gave up his powers so could lose the fight with no questions(and get away while every one though he got killed, and left a fake boby) and went to the real world

Has it been brought up that his wife might have been 10th captain and he followed her into 0 squad? Sorry if I'm repeating, going cross-eyed trying to read all 58 pages.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that she was a shinigami, considering how she was killed. It is almost certain she was simply a human with a good bit of spiritual energy.

maybe, he was the 11th squad captain, and he faked his death to escape to the real world? Because technically, you can't just one day quit being a captain right?

she may not have been a captian level but she could of, the fisher did say he killed a high amount of shimigami, so it would be understandable if she was a avg. rank reaper and she fell in love with her captain, and they ran off. so it is kinda likely that could have happened, but she couldnt be a captain level if she got killed by fisher

promoted to the Squad zero was not that great...for some reasons, then Isshin might be popular being promoted.
fake death was great...otherwise, Squad Zero was recruiting captain level but need to die first on the front of many witnesses.
