Kiske was banished because of some sort of experiment with gigais, and isshin left on his own i think to be with masaki.

I think it's possible ichigos mom is the former captain of squad 12. in the manga it says the former captain was a woman and got promoted to the royal gaurd but never shows her. and since ichigo's dad was in love with her he went with her. the captains jacket the dad wears on his shoulder may be the jacket of his former wife that he wears for her memory.

I also think the royal gaurd could be based in ichigos home town. if the theory that ichigos mom was promoted to the royal gaurd is true and that is why she was there in the first place it would make sense that all the other former captains are there as well. The vizards could be the royal gaurd.

Also when they transported ichigos town into soul society did they take the vizards with it? is that the last line of defense?

But you have something, I dont understand why all the ex-shinigami are all in the same town either, kinda weird. It might be due to the fact that its the only town capable of creating the Kings key. But I don't see the king purposly placing himself in the middle of that. But we'll just have to wait and see.

my theory...they say Isshin is very free spirited.....he left the Gotei, before Urahara entered (he was possible in one of the three Rebel Captains positions) we need to take him our of Unohana, Shunsui Ukitake and Byakuya's Grandpa (it seems these are since the beginning of gotei 13) is very improbable that he was the captain Kenpachi defeated kenpachi is many years later so he probably was captain of 3rd,5th, 8th, or 10th squads
