I think I may close this thread considering he actually refers to himself as a captain while speaking to the Grand F. It's kinda redundant, I'll open it when we see him again. Theories can go in the theory thread. Does anyone see a problem with that? It's either that, or I just making this an Isshin general discussion, but that's more than likely going to be nothing but theories and spam. =/

He didn't actually call himself a captain did he? I think he just said he was captain level.

But he claimed he had the strength of a Captain when he stated that. And if you add in the fact that he is wearing a garment that very closely resembles a Captain's robe, we can come to a logical conclusion that he is Captain, until proven otherwise.

Well your point doesn't address the question, is he captain or not? And the more solid theory is that he was/is, in fact, a captain.

I don't really see an arguement otherwise. "Shinigami captains all conciously keep their soul cutters in a managble size." Clearly not refering to himself as a captain, but rather ranting about other captains during his battle. It's clearly warrented.
