Kariya just aggravated me most of the time, never saying anything really interesting, and epicly failing to put up a good last battle.
On the other hand, upgrade the arc to current animation/art standards and I'd deem it fully worthy of a re-watch.

I like how now they're hoppin into the good fights, i'm thinking this filler is rappin up in about 6 episodes

sweet jesus f*** that was one of the sickest Ikkaku fight ever.... It would be funny to find out that Ken's material zanpacto is just a clone of Ken... it'll be Ken vs. Ken

Really? I thought it was significantly sub par for an Ikkaku fight... he fought like an idiot in this one, he usually fights with a lot more skill... and competence...

And his Zan only ever used 1/3 of his bankai, what was up with that?

We won't see his zanpakutou, since this is a filler.. Showing something we haven't seen in the original story in a filler is a no-no.

While I would normally agree with you(and I still do on this point with Kenpachi), they've revealed the 1st squad Vice-Captain's zanpakuto to be a lightning type, and it seems they're preparing for some more techniques from him.
Then again, perhaps Tite just said "go ahead and do whatever, I don't plan on ever using him for real combat anyway"
