My theory is:
Actual Muramasa swords are supposed to cause their wielders to go mad - to kill or to commit suicide so maybe Muramasa the Zanpakutou drove his wielder - Ichigo's Dad - to break the law somehow and rather then the exicution that Rukia faced given the special circumstances He was separated from his Zanpakutou to save him.

There is a problem with Ichigo's dad being a Shinigami - shinigami on earth are like spirits - so how could Ichigo's Dad have children?

Maybe Seretei underestimated Muramasa the zanpakutou and he took the big share of power when they were separated. That could leave Ichigo's dad a powerless human and leave muramasa with the power to manifest himself physically in seretei after a time.

Besides when Ichigo went to Hueco Mundo Isshin visits Ryūken Ishida at the hospital, Ryūken is surprised that Isshin has regained his powers. It means that Isshin isnt powerless

Good to see another dub I would say that Ichigo's dad isnt a main char, he's been absent for ages and was always comic relief. Is he big in the manga?

True but my logic he would regain his powers at a similar rate to that of muramasa gaining his. After becoming a disembodied soul he was probably lost, in the initial episodes for the filler we see the zanpakutou arguing about waiting for so long and muramasa talking about gaining strength...

It could equally be something as inane as Aizens augmented Zanpakutou causing them all to hallucinate. We dont really know when the arc is set it could be shortly after the last arc and before Aizens defection. Along with Zaraki being missing Aizen and co are missing too.

Ok, seems like I have to clear things out here.

1. The main story/characters are NEVER affected by fillers. NEVER. Once this filler is done with Muramasa will be gone and no one will ever have heard of him.

2. Unlike the Bounto arc(which was a huge failure IMO) today's Bleach has adapted a new method for filler by moving them to an alternate timeline where everyone's powers are the same but anything that might influence the main plot is gone.
Therefore this arc is set during the exact same time as where we left the main plot.

3. Muramasa admittedly killed his own wielder.

No wait, he couldn't, because this is filler and anything else is impossible unless they bring in ANOTHER new character to be his wielder who miraculously survived!
