That's what I was assuming too since he was talking to himself for so long with no response other than that thank you.
His last words about never being alone [until death] is what I was thinking he meant but maybe I'm giving Kubo too much credit.

I also interpreted him as saying that the two of them would always be together both in life and death (that'll make for some fun fanfics)... but you never know with Kubo.

Yeah, he should already have died instantly from Byakuya's attack, I'm not gonna be surprised if he makes it.
I hope he doesn't, though, just for the sake of the last threads of logic in this series.
