I refuse to believe he meant the last arc to relate to Chad. Some half assed retcon about a power is just nothing without backstory. If he'd gone on to say his parents were attacked by hollow or had any relation to anything then maybe, but no.

Actually Tite has been on record as saying that he favours Ishida, and it's the character that he thinks resembles him the most. The last arc seemed more like an excuse to do the time skip and return Ichigo's powers. And it also posed the mystery of there being another Shinigami Representative. Kubo has been setting up for a Quincy arc since the appearence of Ishida when we found out what happened to them. Then that whole scenario with Kurotsuchi. The near genocide of a people seems like kind of a big deal to just expect it never to be brought up again. But that's just me, I actually like the Quincy's, because they actually have a history and a uniform and everything. They're the human counter-point to the Shinigami, more so than the Fullbring(ers) which weren't oganized. |

Where'd he say that? The interview I saw was him saying all characters had a bit of him in them. However, the way he's treated Ishida points to him hating Ishida fiercely. All the last arc was was a way to force a time skip (and a power up for everyone without being suspicious) and get Ichigo's powers back. The shinigami rep aspect was meaningless. A Quincy arc hasn't been set up He set up a rivalry between Ichigo and Ishida that's stayed until this day, he's set up a hatred of Shinigami minus a few, that's it. Having said all Quincy were monitored / dead didn't leave much room for an uprising. Ryuuken's personality didn't leave room for him building up an army of quincy, either. I love the Quincy, I wish they had more focus (mainly Ishida and his dad), but going out and saying "yeahh, we think they're all dead... oh wait, no, there's an army of them right under our noses" just doesn't tickle my pretty button.
