Kaiyako "Kai" ('Child of Forgiveness')
Kaiyako is the younger sister of Mika and is the main protagonist of Kaiyako Chronicles. However she is not Mika's full-blooded sister, they share the same father but different mothers. Their father slept with another women and together they conceived a daughter and he took the shame that came with it, as well as the responsibilities that came with his new child and lover. But after her birth, Kai's mother died. She was given the name Kaiyako, meaning 'forgiveness child' but is often translated as 'Child of Forgiveness' by her father's wife as a sign to him. Through out most of her childhood, she did not know about her birth-mother until one day when she was 15, she heard the women of her village whispering to each other about the scandal. Confused, she ran home and ask her father if what they said was true and bowed his head in shame. Since then, she became more distant from her father and spent more time in the woods. It was during one of these times that Kai found the bronze-red stone among the leaves and heard it's call. This is when our story comes in, only a few days after she found the stone and her new friend.
Within the stone, she found her new companion and Guide, Aiko ('Little Loved One'). Trapped in the stone, her true form is something like that of a cat with light pink fur, long haired cheeks and big ears and a tail; all of them black tipped. She is a wide eyed creature and very adventurous and playful, but if annoyed will claw at the nuisance's face.

Mika ('New Moon')
Kai's older half-sister, Mika is very protective of Kai. Mika was only two when her sister was born and doesn't remember much of the woman and of what happened expect for the woman's eyes. They were the same deep gold color that Kai has. At the ages 11 and 9, Mika and Kai were playing near a river when Kai slipped and fell in the river. Shocked and unable to swim, Mika stood there as her sister went with the current. Fatefully she was spotted by some men from the village and pulled her out. When Mika returned home, her father was in a fit of rage and beat her, shouting that she should've jumped in after her. When she was 16, Mika remembered the woman and was told by her father not to tell Kai and that she should never know. It was then that she noticed the way that he treated Kai, who he was more gentle and kind to, and covered for her when she did something wrong. It was then that Mika saw how their father favored Kai over her, his first born and legitimate child; and her jealousy against her sister grew immensely. But the day Kai found out about her past, it was Mika that comforted her, having lost her mother four years after Kai was born. Confused between her jealousy and love, Mika wasn't sure what to do. When Kai found the stone, Mika began to have dreams of Kai being stolen and other such dreams. The day that Kai was taken, she tried everything that she could to stop them; but when everything was over, she couldn't help but feel joyful.
It isn't clear at the moment if she has a Guide.

Ronin ('Samurai Without a Master')
Ronin's past at the moment is mostly unknown. On his body however shows proof that he is some sort of fighter that has been in many battles. The most recognizable scar among them is the one on his face. In the shape of an slanted 'X', an old sign of slavery before the law change. It's not quite clear at this time how a slave became the captain of a band of raiders, but it is clear that he respects those that prove themselves before him.
Ronin and his Guide, Saya ('Swift Arrow') have been together for many years. It is uncertain how they found each other, but Ronin understands what the Guides are and their purpose. Saya rests on top of Ronin's hilt, the gold stone with black markings, and her true form is an archertess with pale skin and jet black hair that covers half her face. She is blind but can sense and see one's spirit color. She can also shoot her arrows far and wide and has the ability to teleport between them.
