How do you feel about companies like Funimation going after fansubbing groups

Many of us here like anime, some even love it. If anime were to disappear off the planet certain fans would have nothing to watch. We follow a series no matter how long or short waiting for a new episode to come out. My question is, how do you feel about companies like Funimation going after fansubbing groups to stop subbing a series that ISN'T licensed yet. I want to hear your opinion. Whether you support the idea, you think its a good move and should be done more often. Or you are against it. You think its ridiculous and companies that do that are bullying and nit picking on the fansubbers. Now keep in mind fansubbers don't get paid to translate a series. They don't sell or rent their subbing so they make no profit off of it. They urge us to support a series through buying it when it becomes licensed in our region. Be honest with your thoughts, this is a no bias no bull topic.

Let me answer this question with an answer from American History,Here goes:
Has anyone heard of the prohibition act that was passed in the 1920's? There was some protestant family whose family head (obviously a guy) died of alcohol poisoning. The wife got on some tangent on a "Alcohol is evil and should be illegal" bandwagon and succeeded in taking it to the capital, where for some years it was illegal. (Now, if you really know your history this next fact shouldn't surprise you). Despite this the Catholic Church was against it, saying that it would only cause problems, and they were right. Prisons were filled, gangsters got rich off of smuggling 'speak easy' on the black marked and people still got drunk, only now there was more of a thrill. It was finally repealed and the shennagins were over. My point:
Fork em, we'll just go underground. If Beethoven was still alive, someone would have copyrighted his music and it wouldn't belong to the world, just some company. No rules are broken, we're justified.
Not to mention that companies just ruin the anime when they get their grubby little hands on it via westernizing it to American audiences, liken to "dumbing down" or "watering down".

They are just digging their own graves! It is just Human Nature...tell us that we can't have some thing, then we want it...tell us that it's illegal, then we REALLY want it...tell us that you'll come after us, and then we'll bury you! Now hear this Funimation, bite the hand that feeds you and you WILL starve! Those who do not pay heed to History are DOOMED to repeat it...don't believe us? Ask the Music industry or the movie houses how their "War" against us is going...Posted 12-15-2008 at 04:31 AM by gravion17

I think Funimation should shut the &@$# up and leave the internet alone. They run the TV we run the internet, and it should stay that way. Besides, the shows aren't licensed anyway, so they cant do shit, right? Anyway, I don't like it when big companies do this, and I wish that they could get a life. Besides, you can't stop something on the internet, ever. So I think they should just stop trying.Posted 01-22-2009 at 11:28 PM by PlasmaNova

i think funimation is trying to get rid of all the subbing teams and license all the animes so they can sell it via internet and there will be no more nice people who are willing to sub it for free just so us people can watch it. and i agree that funimation does dumb down all there shows and so do all the other company's. such as the American naruto i mean i hate the Japanese naruto but the American is just annoying as **** i mean believe it Believe it!! god damn it shut up! and the American bleach is lame to they took all the good funny parts out and replaced them with lame ones. since the American public dosent like anything with the slightest nudity on public cable or even the crap u have to pay for. really i think funimation should just stick to there own crap selling shit via dvds and tv that people are willing too but me i will never give in to funimation will never buy anything from them! they are scammers and a shark company and should go to hell. witch they probably already are going to go to hell anyway damn demons.Posted 01-24-2009 at 08:45 AM by inpachi

Its true, all that funimation is managing to do is make most of the anime world hate them. if they take away the good animes out there, all thats left is lots of hate, and loads of pissed off people. seriously though, if we polled how many people are willing to pay $1.99 for each episode, considering how much anime most people out there watch, alot of people out there, including me, watch about 35+ episodes a week, i bet you that there will be alot of negative votes. and i am certainly not paying $70+ a week.
Fansubbers are doing the job of subbing episodes better than most bigger companies could ever do, they do it better, they do it faster (in some cases) and they do it for free. they should be allowed to sub anything they want until the series is licensed, instead of being pressured into stopping the subbing when its not illegal. it really is just ridiculous how funimation takes the best shows like Hitman Reborn and expect us to sit around quietly when many of us have been following this show since it first began.
They are destroying anime, destroying the internet and creating one hell of a 'kick funimations ass' fan group.Posted 01-30-2009 at 10:09 PM by lee123red

I have to agree with a lot of you funimation needs to really back off and let us be. I love nothing more than a freshly subbed episode of bleach or naruto because the english versions just out right suck big time. I love pure untainted anime not censored garbage they play on US t.v. really i barely watch t.v. anymore i'd rather watch anime online because i have patience. i can wait for something to be subbed not ripped apart and ruined by funimationPosted 02-21-2009 at 01:46 PM by Genzo

The Problem that most of us have is that the dubbing of the shows we like usualy sucks and takes forever. If funimation could quickly and effectivly sub shows shortly after they air in japan, say a few weeks, and upload them in high quality, to a subscription internet site at say 10 or 15 bucks a month they could make tones of money. Considering that they have to pay voice actors and directors and all that stuff they could could cut out alot of overhead costs by just subbing. But it seems insted of adapting to a changing enviroment and recognizing consumer demands they rather go to war with fan subbers and alienate their core audience. All in all this will only be bad the anime community and companys. My 2 Cents.Posted 03-14-2009 at 12:22 AM by Nesto57

When I heard that news I almost died. A lot of sub groups dropped certain shows I was watching like Nabari no Ou and Reborn when they weren't licensed or if they were there were no active plans to sub or dub them. For now though, fansubs still live on even though Funimation has started subbing certain new shows. I just hope Funimation doesn't step up its game. I really like fansubs, and I don't mind waiting a long time for well translated, unedited, pure anime (I waited months for nearly every episode past 130 of Gash Bell). Funimation's just trying to corner the market.Posted 07-23-2009 at 04:44 AM by KagoMeister3000
