Ok, in the past, when an anime was given a review it was widely believed that nothing was perfect.

With this in mind a rating of 80 or 90 percent meant that this was a solid anime and definitely worth watching, and they were so I did. The coveted 100% label was then only reserved for those who deserved it, the timeless classics and the new smash hits that would instantly blow your mind. I'm not naming any specific ones because we all have our own opinions and I can't be bothered, mostly the latter.

Now days, any chump with a keyboard can come through and call some of the more recent releases a mind-blowing 100%, I see this and go "WOW! This must be the next big thing, I'll check it out." With it then turning out to be the same regurgitated dribble.

The problem? A lack of respect. Where has the respect for the all powerful 100% gone? Kids these days... My point is; don't call it 100% or even 80% based on what you saw in the first episode, if you think that's what it deserves then you should take a deep breath, stop and think "Is this anywhere near as good as this?"
If not, stop wasting my time.

p.s. I didn't mean for this to turn into a huge rant, I just don't like chumps.

I think it's good that you can appreciate a thorough, well-written review and have that lead you into a new Anime. But, I think you might be a little too hard on fans of the series who write the reviews based on their own personal enjoyment vs. a critical review based on both opinion and fact.

They are not professionals, thus they don't have standard to live up to. I suggest a site like AnimeNewsNetwork if you want a review that is done by someone who gets paid for their work.

Whilst I agree basing a review off of the first episode is stupid [considering the pilot's made to hook in the viewer, everything after may be total garbage], as SSJ said, it's all down to fans' opinion. If you want a proper review, go to ANN, but give the kids a break; they probably don't watch much past Bleach :3

Define "recent releases", because if you're reading a review about a brand new anime then of course they're going to lack the knowledge about the end product, and are just going on what they thought about the first few episodes.

A good tip though: read more than one review and ignore the score.
Read the pros and cons (if they've added them) and then decide from what they've written if it's worth your while.
    Numbers mean very little.
