One quick question for you people, how many episodes does it take for you to find out if you like an anime? I know it differs from anime to anime but if you could give me a some sort of guess that would be just as helpful.

Like the title says I'm looking for some anime that's absolutely brilliant. By this I mean one with an amazingly enticing plot, excellent action, and great characters.

Please don't recommend anything with mechas, I don't particularly enjoy giant robot fights. That's kinda what stopped me from watching Code Geass. I've also chckd out Elfen Lied (didn't like it) and Gurren Lagann (sp) but those weren't to my liking.
