Know Any Brilliant Anime?

Like the title says I'm looking for some anime that's absolutely brilliant. By this I mean one with an amazingly enticing plot, excellent action, and great characters.
Please don't recommend anything with mechas, I don't particularly enjoy giant robot fights. That's kinda what stopped me from watching Code Geass. I've also chckd out Elfen Lied (didn't like it) and Gurren Lagann (sp) but those weren't to my liking.
Some of my favorite anime:
One Piece
Naruto
Yu Yu Hakusho
Shaman king
Ouran Host Club
Ranma 1/2
*I'm currently watching Fairy Tail so I'm not too sure if it will be a favorite, so obviously no need to recommend it.
Other anime I watched, liked, but don't place on a pedestal.
Soul Eater
Death Note
Gash Bell
Kenichi

Of course I would recommend Bleach but why don't you try something like sports anime. They are the most famous but are very rare. One of my best are Slam Dunk, Hajime no Ippo, and Eyeshield 21. Hope I helped!Posted 11-08-2009 at 05:20 PM by uaewolf -

just checked descriptions of the plots for both of the anime u recommended, they seem promising so I'll be sure to chk them out. Thanks

I think some of those may be right for you.
