PDX Chiptunes and abandonware

PDX or Paradox is a warez group that has done many cracks and is still going at it.

Their main site has been taken offline so I can only provide a wiki link which is accurate.

Anyways, they made some good chiptunes back in the day and published the HER collection.

On another note, abandonware. I figured i'd talk about it since not many people here know what it means.

Abandonware are games and software which are no longer legaly protected, meaning they dropped the copyright to the game and it is free to download it.

This is especially nice for people who've played some of the older games such as romance of the three kingdoms, ascendancy, sim city and prince of persia.

Personally, I use http://www.abandonia.com/ for my abandonware needs.

Abandonware however does not always have to be an old game. It can also be a newer game which has been dropped because it didn't sell well for whatever reason such as Tribes: Vengeance, which has been made abandonware as Tribes Revengeance. Info as well as download link here:

Continuing with the old version of abandonware, some abandonware requires the use of dosbox, a freeware dos emulator.

I will now explain how to use dosbox.

First you'll need dosbox and a game.
I recommend putting the game under an easy to remember name. (such as romance of the three kingdoms as rottk)

And take note what the .exe (or .bat) file is named.
Preferred is to put the map under c: (This small guide will assume you did)

Now open dosbox, it should say 'z:\>'

You will need to mount the map with the file. Assuming you have rottk here.

So type in 'mount c c:/rottk'
So first mount, than the drive where it's on and than the full directory.

If you did it correctly it should state:
'drive c is mounted as local directory C:/rottk'

Now we'll need to startup via c, so type in 'c:'

and z:\> will change to c:\>

Now type in the .exe or .bat file name (in the rottk example it is koei.exe you are not required to type in .exe if there are not 2 similar file names with different extensensions)

So in this example we type in 'koei' and the game will start.
