Whitebeard
Posted 08-10-2012 at 01:15 PM by KageNoKensai
For some reason I was thinking about the late Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate from OP the other night.
I was thinking about:
1. When he was younger, what did they call him? I mean, did he always have that white beard (and mustache)? Did he rise into prominence only when he grew the beard so he never had any other nickname?

2. Why is he called Whitebeard? The most prominent feature on his face is his white mustache. Even his flag shows the mustache, not the beard. Well, I guess it sucks to be called White'stache, huh?

Anyway.
Just rambling and posting sh*t on this blog before I post something better - like a review of The Bourne Legacy which I watched last night. I hope to get around to it soon. lol.

Ciao.

1. Probably had a mustache when he became a captain. Kinda like Luffy's hat.
2. The reason is that in Japanese there is no word for beard or mustache. They simply use "Hige" which means facial hair. And thus; "Shiro" "hige". White Facial Hair. His official english name is Whitebeard though. For some reason. m.mPosted 08-10-2012 at 01:20 PM by Lucian Silver

1. Sounds logical. Only pirate I can recall that changed his flag is Shanks. lol
2. Oh, is that so? I guess even when ancient Japanese had mustaches they were always accompanied by beards... else they would've thought of a term for it... right? Oh well. But I think I'll call him White'stache from now on.
Btw, what's Roger's flag? Just the regular Jolly Roger? I'ma look online.Posted 08-10-2012 at 01:31 PM by KageNoKensai

._.
1.It's a One Piece thing. Don't question it, embrace it.
They called him newgate, and he just had hair and a clean face when he was younger.
With age i think the mustache grew with it.
2.what silver said
though also if a strong ass guy wants a new he will have it,when you have the power to back it up people will fear the name and not care of its origins or question it.Posted 08-10-2012 at 04:09 PM by Nate_River

Just like Whitebeard's huh?
Oh I'm not questioning it. I'm pondering it. lolQuote:
True that. Plus it would be sick if a strong pirate suddenly changed his flag and no one knew and he'd troll some newbies for fun.
In that regard he's more similar to Luffy than Roger was, I think. I mean, Roger had a pretty large crew with apprentices like Buggy and Shanks. Luffy wants to keep it tight, at least for now. But I definitely see Luffy's "group," maybe not crew, grow to Whitebeard's group's proportions.Quote:
Yeah. lol

Oh, most definitely. I believe Jimbei will join Luffy as an ally along with his crew. Same with Hancock. :OQuote:In that regard he's more similar to Luffy than Roger was, I think.
