It'll make you want to do something, but it won't compel you to. I find it odd that his name is being brought up now. Kony has been on the run for about six or seven years.
Unless, you personally are out there physically hunting down Kony, you are essentially doing nothing. Even by catching him, nothing changes. Africa is full of people like him. The change starts with the Ugandan government.Posted 03-08-2012 at 05:45 AM by -Omega-

It's not specifically because of Kony that this is important. It's the fact that a campaign like this promotes initiative among everyday people. Not average people, just people who want to make a difference but don't really know how or where to start. This could be a defining moment of the current generation of teenagers, sort of like the hippie youth moment of the '60's-70's.Posted 03-08-2012 at 06:28 AM by SSJ5

The hippie movement accomplished nothing. It was fad that came and went.
Awareness is fine, but "Stop Kony" is extremely manipulative. They only send one-third of the profits (by their own admission) to helping anyone. There are better charities to send to. Joesph Kony is really a very small role of this raping and killing of children.Posted 03-08-2012 at 06:32 AM by -Omega-

Saying that unless you go to Africa you can't make a difference does more harm than good, people need to at least try to help in any small way they can. It's better than staying ignorant of the situation... even people who think the whole thing is a waste of time should understand that the video, at the very least, makes people think about bigger issues.Posted 03-08-2012 at 07:25 AM by SSJ5

I'm not saying to do nothing. I'm saying that donating the IC organization is not the best thing to do. What are they going to do? They will either add fuel to the fire or do nothing. They will also make a huge profit for themselves. Uganda will not support the USA telling them what to do nor will they offer assistance. He has been on the run. Why waste money tracking down one man who will inevitably be caught or killed anyway?
I said awareness is fine, but give to a legit charity. One that gives more than a third of their donations. One that provides shelter, food, protection, and clothing to kids instead of a wild goose chase.Posted 03-08-2012 at 07:54 AM by -Omega-

How pessemistic, the world wont change with people thinking like you, that's for sure. D:Quote:It'll make you want to do something, but it won't compel you to. I find it odd that his name is being brought up now. Kony has been on the run for about six or seven years.

I only criticized this method. The world doesn't change by blindly donating money to an unknown organization because of a Youtube video or because your friends are doing it.Quote:
The world changes by being well informed of both the situation and the solutions. I had no problem with the video, it was the charity. Blind optimism can be just as bad or worse than any pessimism. Once again, I believe that we can limit this problem just not with Invisible Children. If anything, I'm a realist not a pessimist.Posted 03-08-2012 at 09:54 AM by -Omega-

I watched that video and my eyes started tearing up (because the fan blew fireworks gun powder in them)...
Seriously, this video doesn't make me care about the ugandan kids, its not like its happening only when you watch the video, it happens every day that this earth continues to exist.
The truth is I don't bother donating to ANY charity for african whatever because of the track record of the nation and the ignorance, and prejudice shown to the west, by the people's of africa almost collectively.
In Africa there are two people; those killing, and those dying. Ofc, the truth of the matter is that those who can't kill will always be subject to those who can.
The african nations of the world receive "billions" of dollars a year from nations all across the world, which out-shadows what charity causes are pulling in yearly anyways. So if all that international help hasn't actually helped, why should I bother?Posted 03-08-2012 at 01:23 PM by Tony_walther
