Happy Europe day!

Posted 05-09-2012 at 10:37 AM by Pad Frank

On the 9th of May 1950, Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organised Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations.
This proposal, known as the "Schuman declaration", is considered to be the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union.
Today, the 9th of May has become a European symbol (Europe Day) which, along with the flag, the anthem, the motto and the single currency (the euro), identifies the political entity of the European Union. Europe Day is the occasion for activities and festivities that bring Europe closer to its citizens and peoples of the Union closer to one another.

So happy Eruope day to everyone

    Happy EU day!

And thanks we are okey without being in the EU!

As long as Turkey and Greece look at each other as enemies the Cyprus-Turkey debatte will never end.

Do they have an Asia Day?

    I`d like to celebrate that.

But Turkey is richer than almost all EU countries, we need them ;D

I don't think it's a matter of hatred or anything. After all it's Cyprus you're debating with, not us. : o
And i dunno about an Asian date.

    It's not a matter a wealth.
EU will have to create huge amounts of new euros in order to cover the whole population of Turkey and that would make euro's value extremely low. Imagine that Istanbul alone has 10.291.102 people.

I know, it's pretty hard for a solution to be found.
Alongside with my economical studies i also study Greek and Worldwide law and it's practically impossible for a solution to be found. At least i get good responses for Turkish university students, it's really great to see that there are bright people in both sides that realize that a co-exist is beneficial for both sides.

I won't go into Turkish-Cypriots relationships because i don't think there is a solution. As sad as it looks i can't blame Cypriots for hating Turkey. Hopefully Turkey's side will become softer now that army's influence in the politics becomes fewer and fewer.

Yes, the army leaders are being jailed, inexperienced officers got the highest posts and the government are extremist religious. Turkey is doing great. m.m

I know you don't want to get into it, but as for Cyprus hating Turkey. It works the other way around too. There are two sides to that coin. And honestly, neither side will give in because they are both right on their own rights.

    Indeed.
The issue in Cyprus should have been solved the very first moment it appeared, now it's impossible to be solved.

If there was a decent diplomatic party to take action the very moment this problem bloomed i think the issue would have been solved by now.
Sadly at that time Europe was facing it's own problems, Greece was fighting dictatorship and Cyprus had 0 power to solve anything.

I hardly doubt that. Knowing the government and the members of that time... They wouldn't have backed down.

    For good reasons too.

    Meeeeh, screw this. m.m

Oh well now nothing can change so it's pointless to make scenarios.

The fact though remains the same.
Europe's slow respond to things that matter. Europe is falling apart, more and more people hate EU and instead of the EU leaders to find a solution to unite the nations again the keep on saying their crap. I just hope that this won't end in a bad way for anyone. : o

    What a happy Europe day

Paddy, you seem to be really good informed about all the politic stuff around this corner.

As for me I don`t want Turkey to get into the EU. Its much better of without paying for Berlusconies love affairs or all the other things the politicians are burden the Europeans with.

EU would have been a really big power if they stayed the way they were at the beginning with less than 20 countries. Getting all the Easteuropeans into the mess was a big mistake.

Turkey would be really well doing and one of the richest countries in the world, if we weren´t that egoistic. The politicians never do sth that would benefit the ppl, but just things to benefit themselves.

I`m happy that the military is somehow losing their power, but I wish the current government wouldn´t use the Islam for all their purposes. Islam is not a religion that wants to be used for political purposes.

Btw, did I miss the Eurovision?
