I honestly think there is room for improvement on his character, but I don't know if they will improve his skills or not. I think he fills in a lot of necessary parts to bleach and is an essential character. for example, other than ichigo, their are not too many shinigami with zans that are constantly in shikai. furthermore, by analyzing ken viewers can get an idea of what it would be like to have a constant flow of rietsu. Also, there aren't too many captains who specialize in their strength. there are captains who specialize in other area's, though. just a few examples: byakuya in kido, soifon in speed, hitsuguya in shikai ability(though he hasn't fully mastered this), mayuri in craziness, etc. I think he makes a great example when you want to think f limitations that can be broken for shinigami. Also, if he did take his fights seriously, I believe he could possibly be one of the strongest captains, so I don't believe he is overrated.Posted 11-02-2009 at 12:12 AM by jsquared130

i think they got as far as they could with developing kenpachi's backstory, and then they have seemed rather satisfied in making him flat. he seems one-dimensional now, but i think that is happening with quite a few of the captains since the soul society arc, the ones who've had some character development. then we leave them for quite a long time, and our interactions with them seem rather superficial. who knows if we'll come back to some of them or not, if there will be opportunities for them to either reveal more of their pasts or to be confronted with new emotional situations. as i said before i think kenpachi comes in, kicks some ass, and then leaves. but other captains seem to be treated rather shallowly as well, so i don't really know.
but i did very much like his roflroll at the end of the last episode.Posted 11-02-2009 at 12:49 AM by

i totally dreamed of seeing this exact comment (with the quote above it, your avi, and everything).
i don't think tite's satisfied with his leaving his character's the way they are, i just it has most to do with his story-telling style. he likes to mostly focus on one thing at a time (plot progression, character devlopment, exposition, comedy, or fighting)Posted 11-02-2009 at 01:33 AM by NiL8r
You mean the Captain that's too retarded to use kido and purposely gets cut? What part of that sounds like a good idea? Imo Renji is better cause he has Bankai and uses kido. (okay rarely but he does/can use it, unlike Kenpachi-tard. -.-
You deserve to die. Renji gets his ass handed to him EVERYTIME. Kenpachi always wins except against the main Protagonist. And while having every good character usually always win is boring, Kenpachi earns it for being the only one of the Captains who could get deep gashes on most of his body and still be grinning.Posted 11-02-2009 at 04:14 AM by Runne666
