The elegant beauty of blood.
Well, now that
Woyzeck Musical Deathmetal
is open I have time to cook, clean and generally use my apartment for something other than a room with a bed. Not to mention catch up on the anime that was released while I was in the theatre designing the lights and sound.
And I'm happy with how it turned out, there is only one phrase to describe my sound design: Almost too loud. The lights look great too. Lighting Design is my true love, humans are very visual creatures and to design lights well there are many factors that have to be balanced. (I'll probably cover those factors in a later blog: Theatre Lighting 101) Till then, I will describe my favorite lights in WMD.
Woyzeck Musical Deathmetal
is the tale of one man's journey into the depths of insanity, and culminates with Woyzeck (the main character) brutally murdering his wife and child. For more information on the original play, a work that was never completed by the playwright: [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woyzeck]here[/ame].
Alone in the countryside, Woyzeck and his wife Marie are out for a picnic. Half of Woyzeck's face is in shadow, the other half a brilliant twilight blue, with a touch of emerald reflecting in his empty eyes. The splash of crimson is highlighted by the reflection of light on his cold steel blade. Behind him, in a radiant halo of vivid gold, Marie collapses on the ground as Woyzeck asks politely: "Are you dead now?"
If you are in New York City in the next two weekends, come and see the show! Roy Arias Theaters on the corner of 43rd St. and Eighth Ave., one block from Times Square. Tickets only $18, cheap for NYC, cheap for live entertainment anywhere.
