Yundi Li: The Pianist

I wasn't sure how to start this, so I'll start by saying this first. I studied the piano for many years and occasionally worked as a piano teacher -right now though I have only one student.
Having said that, I know that technique is something you conquer after hard practice, devotion, discipline and determination. But that isn't the only thing one needs to shine as a pianist. What makes the difference is expression.
And that's where Yundi Li comes in the picture. Yes, his technique is brilliant, one of the smoothest ones I've ever seen I must admit. But what makes him stand out, is his expression and feeling.
In 2000, at the age of 18, he won the 14th International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition. He was the youngest winner—and the first Chinese—in the competition's history. But I think music talks louder than words.

Franz Liszt's La Campanella, a piece that requires unimaginable accuracy and dexterity.
Sunflower (Ling arrangement). This just... flows.
And last, a Yundi Li and Jay Chou duet of Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca. Yes it has many flaws at the beginning. But just watch.

I'd recommend you also listen to Yundi Li's performances of: Schubert's Traumarei, Franz Liszt's Liebestraum, Chopin's Waltz No5, Chopin's Scherzos, Chopin's Grande Polonaise Brillante and in general whatever you can find by Yundi Li.
