Scroll 8: Vin's Past (Part 1)

Posted 06-07-2009 at 09:19 PM by susa_24

-Waking up, see?-
-I don’t see anything at all; it's been the same for four days.-
-She's conscious again.-
-No Vin, why don’t you just tell us the truth, she's in a comma, isn’t she?-
-Come on Eron; be reasonable. Nobody goes into a comma because of a fever.-
-Siding with Vin wont help you at all Per.-
-Shut up, I'm trying my best.-
-Four days?- I asked
-She's alive! Beasty, are you okay?- Eron said as he hugged me tightly.
-Back off you beast! She's in pain.-Vin growled.
-Why should I be in pain?- I asked, their conversation was too complicated for me to follow.
-Well, you kinda went delirious and fell off the stairs.- Ike said.
-No way. I hate my life.- I moaned.
-Don’t be an dumb Eron; she's too confused to notice it’s a joke.- Per said, and then I heard something that was probably a smack, but I didn’t bother to open my eyes and check.
-Sorry beasty, I was just kidding.-
-You're in pain because of the fever; it's been going up and down all week.-
-This sucks- I said -It's been one month and a half or something since I met you and I've been awake for twenty three of those days; that is just wrong. At this rate I'll never be ready in time.- I sighed
-Don’t worry Sheens, you have to take your time so you don’t hurt yourself, and this time it's my fault.- Per said.
I opened my eyes and discovered it was the hour of the twilight. I was no longer covered in towels; instead, I was covered in blankets and Liz was lying beside me, she was hot, like everything I ever touched, although this time it was different. Normally when I came in contact with something hot, I felt like I had to stop touching it, similar to the way you feel when you touch ice, you don’t need to, but you want to. This time her warmness felt nice, like I needed it.
Per's face was… Pitiful and grim. His eyes were baggy and his mouth was twisted in a bow, like he hadn’t slept in days.
-Come on Per, you know it isn’t your fault, we all know that.- I said.
-Yeah, except Vin- Eron added -She's being really *****y about this.-
-Eron, get out, now.-Vin warned.
-You have got to know when to stop.- Per advised.
-Okey-dokey. Jeez, love issues affect all the party, this sucks. Hey Liz, wanna help me out a bit in the kitchen?- He Asked Vin, which had been silent until now and opened the door.
-Umm, sure, I'll be right there.- She said. Eron left the room and Vin did too.
-I swear, if he says anything else… One more word and I'll annihilate him. He won't be able to talk again. So long, sound boy!- Vin muttered.
-Come on Vin, you're scaring me. He--. I wanted to make her see she was really being awful about this whole thing, but I didn’t want to pass onto her "To Kill" list. -He is right, you know? I mean, look at Per for one second. He's awful.-
She looked at Per, at first, she was frowning and her eyes were evil. I'm not exaggerating, really evil. Her mouth was shut and her lips were pressed in a tight, flat line.
But after a while, they looked into each other's eyes and Vin's frown began to slowly disappear, her face started to relax and all evilness abandoned her eyes.
Per was pale, his eyes were baggy, and his hair was messy. His face was dull and shadowy. After a while, almost at the same time as Vin's, it started changing. It slowly started gaining color, and he relaxed his eyebrows.
-I'm…I'm sorry Per. I was really mean to you and you didn’t disserve it.- Vin smiled. -Now, why don’t you go to the bathroom and fix your hair? It's awful.- She said with a playful voice. -And, while you're at it, wash your face hun, it's dreadful.- She laughed and Per sighed.
-There is the Vin I love, I've missed you, you know?- He said as he held her in his arms.
-I'm sorry Per, I was unfair, but I- I was upset about the wh-whole rock thing.- She mumbled as she buried her face in Per's chest and he hugged her tightly. I had never seen so many sudden changes of moods in one person so fast, it was impressive.
-Its okay sweetie, I understand, and I'm terribly sorry I made you remember that, I should have been more careful.- Per said. He was so gentle, he spoke so softly at that time; he was so careful that it seemed as if Vin would fall apart if he made one sudden movement. There was something that I was obviously missing.
Vin started crying after that, and she continued for about two hours, she kept saying things like "I didn’t do anything to save him" and "He was in so much pain". And Per was there for her, comforting through every single minute of her pain. Right there, there was something I couldn’t understand about love. I probably wouldn’t stay with her the whole time; I'd get bored and leave her. But he stayed; a complete mystery to me.

During the two hours, I just lay on my bed, being as quiet as I could. I would've left the room but I knew if I tried Vin would stop me and I didn’t want to interrupt.

Two hours later, the sobbing gradually stopped. I noticed Vin's iris had turned completely red. It was a really strange thing to see, she looked creepy, I couldn’t understand why that had happened, but it wasn’t the moment to ask. After a while Vin fell asleep in Per's arms.

I didn’t know what to say, I knew Vin had to tell me what was she crying about, but it was hard not to talk about what had just happened. I hated those uncomfortable silences.
-Um, so, Per… About the levitation thing, what did you find out?- I asked.

-I'm not sure I should tell you.- He said as he picked Vin up. -I'll be right back.- He opened the door of my room, carried Vin to her bed and came back to my room.
-Come on, why not?-
-I'm afraid that you'll run away and train.- He said as he sat in the chair next to my bed.
-Come on, pleaaaase?- I begged.
-No.-
-You know I'll do it anyways so you might as well make it easier for me and tell me right away.-
-No, you won't. I wont let you.-
-Hehe, I'm sure I'll find a way. It'll be a piece of cake.-
-Wanna bet?- He rubbed my head.
-Oww- I moaned -You're on, loser has to run 150 laps around the temple.-
-You can't even run 150, but okay, be prepared sis.- He mocked, but after five seconds he realized he had called me sis and blushed a little bit.
-I'm-- I'm awfully sorry, it's just that you have the same age, and you remind me of her.- He explained. I thought I saw something coming out of his eye, but he wiped it off immediately.
-It's okay bro, I understand.- I joked. -So are you gonna tell me or am I going to have to make you?- I taunted, he laughed.
-I'd love to see you try.-
-Hey, don't underestimate me, I may be sick but I can make you tell me.-
-Oh really? How?-
-Easy… But I won't tell.-
-Aww, come on.- He begged.
-Nuh-uh, if you won't tell, there is no reason why----
-Father, No!- Vin screamed from her room. I stood up but Per pushed me back to my bed.
-I've got this, please stay here.- He said, and ran to Vin's room.
I had nothing to do, and I was feeling a bit dizzy, so I fell asleep.

I couldn’t say how long I’d slept, but Liz was sleeping beside me so I figured it was night. I felt someone was looking at me. I sat up and saw someone standing on the threshold. I couldn’t be certain, but I was almost sure it was Eron. I tried waking Liz, but I came to the conclusion there was no need, and waking up Liz is as easy as biting a wall. So I lay back and continued sleeping.

After the incident with the mysterious person, it was hard to fall asleep again, I woke up three times in the night, and the three times the same person was standing in the threshold, and when I looked that way, it was gone.
I got out of bed at 9 and wondered why there was no one sitting beside me, unlike the other thousand times I’d woken up since I was sick. I took the chance and sneaked downstairs and found that there was no one inside the house. “Must be outside” I deduced. I peered out the window to check, and everyone was gathered outside, watching as Vin and Per sparred.
I watched as Eron glanced to my bedroom window, the front door and fixed his eyes on me. He smiled at me and urged me to join them with his hand. I shook my head.
-Why not?- I heard. The sudden break of the silence startled me, and I jumped back, Eron laughed. I still couldn’t get used to his voice appearing anywhere.
-Because I am sick, and even though I have no problem with going out and disobeying Vin, I want to get better so I can start training again, I cant stand one more day inside this house, I had never been inside for so long, its getting boring.- I said, and I knew Eron had heard because he chuckled at the desperate ring in my voice.
-Vin said some fresh air is alright for you, she knew you were going to wake up and told me to fetch you. Besides if you sit next to me you wont get cold.- He added. This time I was the one chuckling, we had not finished a conversation without Eron hitting on me.
I opened the door and breathed in the fresh air I ached for. Even though it had just been five or six days, I missed the outside
