The Curse of Mother Luna & The Oath of the Moon
Mother Luna, the lady of the moon, turned her back on her children as the howl of her dying lover sundered the worlds of shadow and flesh. In this moment of sorrow and betrayal she cursed the Uratha with the bane of silver, the silvery light which Mother Luna shared with this purest of metals became the bane of any Uratha who would dare touch it, ripping away at the very spirit of the Uratha. Without the blessing of Mother Luna, the Uratha were cast into this new unforgiving world as only a shell of it's former perfection. The Uratha passed into the shadow of history as their age of glory had ended, their heritage all but lost, the ancient pacts with their spirit cousins all but severed, the Uratha now walk among men like wolves among sheep denied the hunting grounds of their fathers, yet still they hunt.
Centuries passed and continents shifted. Unaware of the legacy that came before them, man rose to power in the world of flesh.
The Uratha, not shackled to the laws of humanity, nor a code of the spirits to guide them, soon found that creatures of such overpowering fury simply could not roam free as they pleased without consequence. Sins against their own nature weakens them and drives them further away from the harmony of flesh and spirit, becoming a deadly spiral of madness which manifests itself in the very mind of the Uratha. Denying their nature or letting it take control only serve to create the mindless monsters that the legends of man already portrayed them as. The Uratha recognized this potential weakness and so the tenets known as the Oath of the Moon came to be. The Oath of the Moon is an oath of many parts, part religious creed, part code of law spoken in the First Tongue as spoken by Father Wolf himself.
The Oath is the core of balancing the principles of instinct with rationality, the flesh with the spirit and these laws serve to remind the Uratha how easy it is to degenerate into a monster.

- Urum Da Takus - The wolf must hunt. The first tenet of the Oath of the Moon in honor of Father Wolf serves to bind the Uratha to their purpose, to hunt their sacred prey.
- Imru Nu Fir Imru - The people do not murder the people. The second tenet, and the most ambiguous of them all...
- Sih Sehe Mak, Mak Ne Sih - The low honor the high, the high respect the low. The tenet symbolizing the Uratha hierarchy.
- Ni Daha - Respect your prey. The tenet for the Uratha to respect all their prey, whether that be of the flesh or the spirit and prevent them from killing unnecessarily.
- Uratha Safal Thil Luu - The Uratha shall cleave to the human. No werewolves can be born from mating with wolves and one werewolf breeding with another begets a true monster. Violating this tenet is a sin of lust and a failure of self-control.
- Nu Hu Uzu Eren - Do not eat the flesh of man or wolf. The Uratha does not consume the flesh of their closest relatives for doing so has great consequences.
- Nu Bath Githul - The herd must not know. Once torn free from their shelter of ignorance, some humans cannot be pulled back. The tenet that protects the Uratha from the gaze and danger that humanity pose.
