-Note that this rp is under construction.
Expected launch date: Around May 14'th

The year is 467, a year based on a calender which began after an event no one remembers. No one could tell you much about this event, or why the sky ceased to have clouds so long ago. But the world moved on. History is now far more focused on the great unification of the lands into three great monarchies: Lorianne, Wulfrane, and Haibelstaf, with the odd republic stubbornly cruising along in some corner no ruler particularly cared about. While practically the same language is spoken in every land dialects differ greatly and accents even more so. Due to the recent unification and later rise in popularity of Yarmal- a single religion previously plagued by subsects- in all territories but Wulfrane, a spirit of curiosity and philosophy took the lands. While it is enough to distract much of the population, many old generals and rulers still remember all too clearly the violence of four hundred years worth of hostilities which took place in the Great Central War- a three sided effort by each kingdom to wrest control of the central area purely for their use, as it contained the most fertile lands. While leaders throughout the decades keep this in mind, much of the citizenry has been more keen to accept an end constant warfare, following the writings of many pro-peace philosophers, many of whom were part of or later joined the Magister's Guild. Following these events, the shift in focus from traditional war to higher technology caused science to reach a golden age. While the philosophers already cheer victory after long years of effort, not all of it has been peaceful. Powders have been invented to ignite and combust, taken from a newly discovered substance called Olradite, named after the rising star Vincent Olran in the Magisters Guild, the leading organization of scientists. New effective bolt action rifles, small combustion engines and limited electricity are but a few wonders brought about by these events but the grandest yet was also wrought by Olran's group. An international franchise of sorts resulted from the completion of his work: an expedition past the known world as humanity's curiosity is at its height. And the most astounding part?
You are invited.

A call has gone out to bodyguards, adventurers, hunters, lords, engineers and scientists. Anyone at the height of their craft who can contribute to the great expedition of the Sleipnir, a marvelous ship who is said to have the capability to brave not only the tumultuous seas but through the very air, and go beyond the jagged rocks and reefs which restrict the coast. It is moored at the furthest outpost of Lorianne, the country who had the questionable fortune of having Cynthia Morgraime as a citizen and major funder of the project. How you enter into this journey, is up to you.

The Sleipnir
The Sleipnir is a massive craft with a hull based on warships to allow landing in rough areas and floatation in the ocean. Two side decks span off from either side which contain two large glass domes which house the mechanisms that grant the Sleipnir flight: Two graviton cores based off constant rotating axis. The cores free the sections from the effects of gravity, allowing several large weights on rails below deck to shift the craft in any direction before locking the axis in place, shifting the gravitational force in a fixed location, thereby pulling the ship along through the air.

Characters Aboard
Alexander Farthem- A master pilot of every machine meant to move man more than two feet, his curiosity and natural skill bringing him through the ranks of the navy and several scientific societies with ease. After a year of retirement he was contacted to pilot the Sleipnir, and has shown equally remarkable results. He is said to be of a charismatic and friendly demeanor, with no small amount of dry humor.

Vincent Olran- A head scientist and rising star in the Magister's guild, Olran headed the project to build the Sleipnir, discovering the technologies necessary for its operation along the way.

Admiral Dolan- The current head of the navy, prestigious, though due to the restricted nature of the seas dominance was quickly decided, thus making his opportunity for glorious victory was short. The fact is not often reminded to him as he is especially hot-headed about that issue and known to have quite the temper.

Cynthia Morgraime- One of the world's most renown nobles, though her roots lie in a humble household of a mere baker at birth. Cynthia bought her title with the mountains of gold and the rivers of blood in the wake of her determined rise to status, and is known for all these things as well as her keen sense of adventure and thirst for challenge, which brought her to fund much of this venture on the stipulation that she come aboard as well.

Setting
You all stand at a crossroads. A fact little known, and jealously kept. Will the world burn, in exchange for hope? Will it stagnate, to secure some scrap of life we can salvage? Will its final pieces be consumed in the roiling waves of hatred, vice, and war? Will you stand and judge, or to be judged? Or will you find some deeply hidden future I cannot foresee? Will even it be a heaven or hell, or can we simply not know?

I ask you these questions now because you need to know. You need to remember, but for now, enjoy your lives, for you have time left.
Precious time left.

Character Creation

One more question before you go stranger. Who are you?

Your name is:

Faction
You awake to the new day in the...

Docks

Spoiler

You get up quickly, knowing full well that daylight is already burning. You are..
A mechanic, long days of precise work fill your time and your pride as one of the many workers who upkeep and helped build the airship. You need no ticket or invitation aboard, you simply get your tool bag and set off to be one of the first ones aboard, after all take off is planned for today.
A Soldier, with a duty to uphold order even as the expedition leaves society behind. You are armed with the sabre you've had as long as you have been in the military and new pistol courtesy of the Magister's Guild. You slip off your bunk and gear up before getting ready to attend your post aboard the ship.

Slums

Spoiler

You yawn and stretch for a moment before getting up off what may be some of the most comfortable bedding in the entire district, as it is actually a basic mattress. In fact, everything in the room is quite basic, as it was prepared for you, and prepared to be temporary, to last until this day. The sealed invitation in your hand was also carefully prepared, and will have its use outlived shortly as well. You sincerely hope the same cannot be said for you. Working with some of the biggest crime lords in the city, you have been chosen and promised both great riches for success and great peril for failure in your task. And your task is simple, board the airship and when it returns be carrying enough stolen valuables from the nobles aboard to satisfy your debts and your greed.

City Limits

Spoiler

You are jolted conscious by the wheels of the station wagon thundering across the wall's gates and immediately check to make sure you have everything ready. The expedition is of international importance, and cooperation. That is why you are arriving, and just in time due to the harsh winds. You practice the local tongue a few last times before meeting the other ambassadors who will be joining the trip as well, or will you be the only one to make it? Not that it matters, what matters is that you keep a close eye and detailed reports for the homeland.

Magister's guild

Spoiler

After a long nights sleep having so many frantic, exciting and revolutionary nights before, you feel refreshed and ready to enjoy the spoils of your hard work. Though you feel you can only claim a small portion of the credit for the marvels Olran conceived, your excitement and pride to witness the fruits of your labor at work on the expedition cannot be dampened. With everyone who worked on the graviton project invited aboard, you gather what you wish to bring and begin to make your way down to the dockyard.

You remember your loyalties lie with...

Spoiler

Note that loyalties can change over the course of the rp, but some are required or restricted at the start with depending on your situation.

No one but yourself
The Military- Necessary for soldiers, cannot be a thief.
The Magister's Guild- Necessary for those in the guild, restricted to those in the military, the guild, or an ambassador (the guild is an international organization).
The Criminal Syndicate
A specific person- Olran, Dolan, etc.
HATE-

Spoiler

Restricted to characters from the organization, are able to fake loyalty to any faction if they wish or need to, this sub-loyalty will act the same as other loyalties and cannot be changed any easier, if only to keep up appearances. (Under construction, HATE characters follow several different rules that normal characters and are recommended to be played only by experienced rp-ers looking for a challenging role.)

When one considers the phrase: "Don't put all your eggs in one basket." One must also consider the temperature of the oven in which the basket is placed, and whether or not said oven is also full of spare ammunition. This is due to the Coriolis effect, in which jet streams crossing one another in the sky create small wormholes into the water dimension, causing large amounts of moisture to be added to the atmosphere, before it is consumed by large, invisible flying monsters which can only be described as "curt". Not to be confused with curtain however, as these devices have nothing to do with magnetic guidance functions and everything to do with controlling fuel cells located specifically within hydro-combustion engines. This brings us full circle back to the original phrase, which is quite the problem as we have simply now gone in a circle and not gotten nearly far enough away from the rather large mutated kettle foxes, fortunately this is easily remedied by pulling the proverbial rug out from under them, and proceeding to smother them with it. That is why rugs are never to be included in flight plans, regardless of Arabic origin. Furthermore, this line of reasoning ends with a law rather than theory, which dictates the donation of your souls to this blog at the nearest convenient time, which is described in the official source known as the Cosmos Codex as the next three seconds. Have a nice temporal displacement.

Some mechanics for the upcoming rp:
Each character will have several traits, along a sliding bar or meter of sorts, that are very important.
Certain events and especially how you choose to react to them can cause these to raise or fall from where you set it at character creation.

Vitality: Your health, this includes how well you are off in all physical aspects, such as disease, fitness, agility, etc. I recommend you try to keep this high, there really isn't any reason not to... or?

Humanity: How much basic care for the well-being of your fellow man you retain. Your level of humanity will certainly help keep your original task clearly in mind, but may impede decisions that could otherwise be dealt with swiftly.

Sanity: How well you keep your grip on reality. While keeping your wits is always helpful, that isn't to say that there are not merits to the creative spontaneity found as our minds come apart.

Spirit: Your level of drive, passion to go on. Having lowered spirits often means lower moral, and more apathy, though less passionate decisions based on logic can also be quite helpful.

Alignment: How do you see yourself when matched along societal standards that governed the start of the journey? Are you a prim and proper saint, an evil self-serving vagabond, or somewhere in between?

Association: What faction you came from can change, and your views with them. Factions give important benefits in exchange for loyalties that may or may not be the best for the journey overall.
-Note that if you wish to come from HATE then you are technically a sub-faction and can become a member to most of the others or none as you choose, but your loyalties will not change. More on this later.

Right so I will take the core of the HATE rp design but implement it in an independent story so I actually have something to go on.
The gist of it:
It shall be in that Victorian pre-industrial setting in which science advances by leaps and bounds but only in certain areas, though this is not steampunk.
It shall also follow cliche and be on an awesome airship.
-There will be a metric ton of npcs to interact with, with at least 20 main npc characters as of now who are major in their own right.
-The main objective will be to survive the voyage and each member will have their own personal goal, and they can enter at various ranks into the ship, whether they work there in one of various jobs, snuck on, are patrons, etc.
-There will be mystery, guile, backstabbing, and a whirlwind of npc's making things difficult even without the players in the mix.
-Expect highly strategic combat that occurs which will feel more like danger events and survival scenarios rather than classic sparring.
-Combat will include weaponry that makes sense in this setting as well as some other things from HATE described in the previous blog.
-The rp will take place both on-board and in various stops, some planned, others not.
-There will be the possibility of character death because it is rather shallow without it, no npcs are immune to death either, but consequences abound.
-No idea what the title is at the moment.

Thank you for your time, do tell me if this outline sounds interesting should you deign to respond dear reader.

I should make note that this will not be occurring very soon, and most probably not before I am finished with my duties elsewhere.

The Hidden Academy of Theatrical Evil is malevolently pleased to announce its unholy creation in the foulest dark corner of this earth.

The Hidden Academy of Theatrical Evil is malevolently pleased to announce its unholy creation in the foulest dark corner of this earth.
However, applicants should note that several of the most fiendish janitors ever to walk this side of the mortal coil have been hired and will be keeping the premises pristine and pleasing to the eye so long as you don't peek into the obvious hiding spots for corpses.
-------------------------------------------------------
Overview so far
Headmasters: All headmasters are the "Card Carrying Villain" type. This position is rare and generally kept to 1-3 members, though there is and has never been any regulation on that point, mostly due to there being such rare cases of anyone so perfectly villainous enough to fill the roll. Headmasters enforce rules as they please in the facility, and generally may have whatever effect on whatever happens to be going on around them without retribution. Not that they ever tell anyone they aren't allowed to try.
-This position is generally reserved to those invited to be a headmaster, that said you can always ask.
-Preferred to have heavy experience in rp, notably story driven sorts. Should have no qualms and indeed much of the opposite when it comes to being "bad". Must have experience with gm'ing as this position demands you also be a gm.

Game Moderators: Anyone at any position can be a gm, it should simply be noted that if you are a headmaster than at the very least you are acting in gm status when you are on that character. All gm's control certain groups of members, (or in some cases take turns or swap who controls who's events). Gm's are free to create whatever story they wish for the characters they gm, and should encourage their players to converse, interact and engage in the co-authorship process as well. The one exception is when gm's in control of a main storyline (obviously myself, and any other headmasters/gms who wish to contribute directly to the path of the story, though these must be approved), tell other gms that certain types, or certain specific events should occur, or even send them some text to post directly to their member group.

Professors: This position holds high importance within the rp as well, but generally has no strings attached other than gm's rarely telling them "It might make my life easier if you did this rather than this at this time.. etc." Professors are highly advanced villains who are specialized in a certain type of villainy which you choose yourself (these will be listed at a later date). Obviously they have the duty to teach applicants but how you choose to do this is up to you. Quite often much of their role is done by accompanying their student group on missions, expeditions, and story content. This position is preferred to be given to members with more experience in this kind of roleplaying, as it enables them to teach in more ways than one to newer members. This doesn't mean it is the preferred position for such members however, as the professor-student ratio right now has to be kept at 1:3 minimum.

Staff: As of now no one can be part of the staff, as they are far too disposable to have any slightly sensible amount of lifespan for someone to actually play.

Applicants: There are no ranks for applicants, you are all treated the same when you arrive by the staff and leadership of the Academy, however it is possible to come in with previous experience in villainy ranking anywhere from stealing from your sisters purse to mass-murder. Simply fill out your sheet and character with details that are reasonable to be approved and try to make a unique character you will enjoy. Being all powerful is not the most fun thing in the world. Besides those positions are reserved for Headmasters.
Quip aside, even for rather high scaled characters absurd weapons, abilities, backgrounds, ect. to this universe in your character sheet will be turned down, often with advice for revision.

Hero: This position is outside and usually (very very usually) polar opposite of its goals. "Heros" can be anything from police to wanderers to sons of exotic cloth merchants so long as they also stand in the way of "evil". This position is often motivated by bounties placed by governments or some fuzzy feeling or something they get when they stop a village from burning down I don't know. This side of the rp will be heavily expanded upon at a later date.

Here is the short and sweet of the universe:
Law and order has been quite successful in various ways in preventing most types of crime, though there are varying degrees of corruption within 5 city state-like civilizations which are split amongst 3 major territories in the continent this rp inhabits. Technology is generally at an industrial state but retains much of the artistry and cleanliness focus of a renaissance time, at least to people in medium to high level livelihoods. The weapon style varies from place to place but generally any kind of melee weaponry is accepted, and your weapons can be quite unique, though I do appreciate you doing more than posting a picture of ichigo's sword. Firearms are beyond flintlock but not much further past bolt-action, at least when it comes to high caliber, and require good amounts of experience to be accurate. There is not "magic" per se, rather tricks of the trade for villains, which will be discussed later, and advanced technologies for those in POMPOUS, ahem, that is to say "good". Devices that use gunpowder such as fuse-based bombs, smoke balls, etc. are also commonplace.

That's all for now, good day.

Now, seeing how oil prices are skyrocketing, I need to devise a plan to shoot down the rockets, thereby returning the precious resources to our planet, honestly politicians have no idea how to deal with the atmosphere, if they wanted it tan they a different kind of oil.
Furthermore, everyone should note that penguins are not birds. Penguins are a cybernetic race leftover from the ancient times whose programming dictates that they continuously dive into deep frozen wastelands in a valiant but pointless effort to open the buried gates to Atlantis.

We are writing to you from the educational facility HATE or:
the
Hidden
Academy of
Theatrical
Evil
HATE is a relatively new organization looking to recruit brigands, thieves, bar-room brawlers, incompetent guard captains, notorious petty vengeance holders and the like. We are here to promote what is un-just, un-right and downright devilish at times in this otherwise utterly boorish world. Here at HATE, you will learn to undo your ways of minor evils and replace them with lives of complete and utter villainous impulse. We teach you how to avoid the pit-falls of poorly made decisions that guide you to your evil plots, and form well-crafted and self-justified crusades against all that is "good" in this world. We will teach you how to deal with the inevitable band of citizens with just enough empathy to stand in the way of your plans, who are usually apart of an informal societal mechanism group we refer to as POMPOUS, or:
the
Purist
Organization of
Megalomaniac
People
Obliterating
Un-fitting
Sentiments
So send your letter through the proper back-alley channels which will hopefully reach us after several months of shady and hidden transactions so that no one can ever find us, as lesson one is to have a base that isn't being currently burned down by the local militia, authorities, revolutionaries, etc.

With our most devious regards,
The Management of HATE.
