Why do you care? We all like anime because the plot is good, the art is good, the characters are good, etc.
If you enjoy a show from Antarctica that fits those criteria, why do you care if it's labeled "anime" or not.

Avatar is a great show with a great plot. Yes it was kinda gay inbetween action, and Aang was childish, but the action was awesome and at a quality that few real anime can match(I mean that every move is there. In things like DBZ you have that teleporting crap and a fast playing loop of footage). The Avatar world is huge(time wise) and has potential for another story. I never watched Avatar all that much, but what I saw was decent enough.
