This film was made in Hong Kong in 2002 and tells the story of Chan wing-yan(Tony Leung Chiu-Wai)who goes deep undercover in a Triad gang and a Triad member Lau Kin-Ming(Andy Lau Tak-Wah) who also goes undercover for the gang. each other is trying to get a advantage in intelligence over the other side. The more the moles become involved in their undercover lives, the more issues they have to cope with. they is my brief synopsis of the movie don't wanna spoil it for you viewers at your homes and computers. lol but all in all it is a gripping drama that makes you feel you are a part of the story. i highly recommend it in saying this i give it 4/5 stars.

The hollywood movie "the departure" starring Jack Nicholson etc is based off Infernal affairs. Altough in comparison the departure looks like a fricking joke with the typical hollywood love-triangle and a cut off storyline.
Love these movies, it's way up on the list next to johnny To's "election" series, which is also about the Triad.

Infernal affairs I and II are like my favourite chinese movies...I really thought that Scorsese`s "Departed" missed many things, many emotions compared to the original...and despite Scorsese telling that he was "only" influenced by it I thought he copied many aspects..

in that aspect, Scorsese is full of sh it, i mean look at the damn elevator scene!!!

and he definitely missed the part where lau had remorse after he did it; saying that he would rather be dead and yan alive, saying that he would trade places with him, "i do". this was my favorite part of the movie.

yes..that was also one of my favourite scenes..in scorseses everything is more or less black and white, good and evil...the character Lau played in infernal affairs has more shades and tehrefore I think he reaches more people, he is more real.I mean to a certain extent I understood him and felt sorry for him....this was more or less lacking for Scorsese`s version.

it almost seems like they kept departed at a pg-13 level, not graphic nature per say, but level of complexity, to where the u.s. as a country has such bland movies MOST of the time, they had to keep the film at a fairly simple to understand plot. oh good example, any of the fast and furious movie; take those for example and place them next to infernal affairs, and the difference in complexity is a complete joke.

that is so true. Fast and furious is just one predictable story...with fast cars and sexy girly..."dream of men". Whereas infernal affairs had really many suprising moments. Gah what should I say...I love it.

But is it really the US audiene or the movie industry which keeps the level down?
But they do such things quit often. Fo instance there is this german movie "die Anderen"...which was quite successfull, but Hollywood is going to make a remake in order to reach a greater audience. I wonder how much of the original complexity will be maintained.
