She's very manly and alcoholic. Can be sensitive at times. Does not like to talk about her personal problems. Is drunk most of the times. Is the second best drinker in the Fairy Tail world, Bacchus being the first. Had a crush on Macao. Drank less because Macao told her to do so. Is good friends with Lucy.

When I first saw Cana in the anime, I thought she was a laid-back person, that appears to hold no troubling past. But it is now revealed that she did have a very serious problem. I think Cana has the tendency to keep almost everything to herself, even she couldn't do a very important thing for years: to tell Gildarts that she is his daughter. Of course there are pressures that keep herself from doing it, but I just couldn't understand why she had no clue (for years!) that by keeping that attitude, her feelings will kill her from inside. And that drinking habit, it is as if she tries keep whatever inside her do not come out; the urge to say it out loud do not come out because she swallows it back along with the alcohol. Kinda feel sorry for her.

I don't understand why author of the article says that redemption pattern doesn't work for her. Everything is going on well now between her and the guild members, and if it says that "it's too late for sympathy" (though I'm pretty sure it meant "empathy"), I disagree, because I do empathize with her - even if she did nothing for redemption. We should already be glad that she regrets what she did to Lucy, because if she is the heartless kind, she shouldn't have bothered whatever that was happening to her friends, and just did everything that would make her own self satisfied.
