k, let me ask u a few questions. do u have training for up close fighting, then I am talking about fighting where u and the opponent are almost face to face, rubbing each others nose?

can u submissions?

do u have take down defences?

do u have on the ground defences or offences?

if so, then I take it back what i said, but I truly doubt that is a fact.

Go to UFC, it is a great martial arts fighting, were they go Mixed martial arts. there u have to know brassilian jiu jutsu because if u dont u will lose.

and yes u can compare them to each other because each of them is suppose to train urself in case that u may protect urself from danger. and 90% of all fights sooner or later end up on the ground. therefore u ought to train an martial art that either knocks them out in the first second, or one where u are able to avoid the ground or take advantage of it.

As i said , until you get how ignorant you are , i don't really think that there is a necessity in talking to you about martial arts.

martial art is for self defence right?

so then u train to protect urself from danger in different situations.


but some martial arts dont train in the same situations, boxing and wrestling for instance(not the kind of wrestling where it is all show and no actuall sparring)

boxing punches, wrestiling tries to take the opponent down and remain on his feet, if I remember correctly. anyway.

but they also have advantages, so u should compare them to find out waht kind of self defence u want to learn, and what u believe is the most effective one.

so yes, u may compare these two martial arts(or any other), because both have weaknesses in selfdefence in certain areas.

How does boxing not coher in terms of self defense ? it is one of the most used self defense martial arts in the world , those who know the boxing technique , they use it , you can look that up buddy and you will see that i'm right .

And you're missing the point , every martial arts has the power to defend themselves in danger situations , or else it wouldn't be called martial arts.

The very foundations of martial arts were for self defence , so EVERY martial arts has the ability to self defence it self in any danger situations . That doesn't give the right for comparing either one . Martial arts has its own weaknesses and benefits , just because you watch UFC and see a lot of brazilian jiujutsu in there , it doesn't give you the right to be ignorant and try to bash in to other martial arts . They all differ and all have different uses of fighting corresponding to their martial arts , it's like you're trying to compare a fight between a mouse and a mouse . You simply CANNOT compare martial arts with eachother because they have different ways of fighting.

looks like you have to take it back then, Yes there are all those aspects, and if an opponent ever got nose to nose distance from a trained kung fu practitioner its over for them.

There are different martial arts because everyone's different - a martial art is only the best for certain people - this thread actually helps to learn new techniques and understand different martial arts, its not really about comparing them or judging them. Everyone says their martial art is the best - i'll put my hand up right now and say i have been known to say aikido is the best. And btw, there's a boxer at my aikido class who wud b v unhappy 2 hear any1 claim boxing isnt a martial art, and i seriously wouldn't want 2 make him unhappy, even tho hes a lower grade than me
