Wasn't so much a series as it was just a couple movies. Not sure whether it was mid or late 90's, but that's when I managed to watch my first anime. Which was luckily enough to be Akira. Then after that I came to watch Ghost in the Shell then managed to catch Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 and really got hooked then.

There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
An isolated nation protected by ancient line of kings.
A modern civilization alive with the Crystal's songs of sword and sorcery.
A lone kingdom fighting to forestall the outer word from imposing its heretic order.
The struggle for the final crystal is merely a prologue to the chronicles of a new era.

I started watching Adult Swim then this show FLCL comes on, and I loved it... And at the time I didn't even realize it was anime. Also, they had an anime thing on TechTv awhile back I'd try to catch every once and awhile (First watched Magical Arcade Abenobashi) but then G4 took them over and their anime thing stopped. But other than that after watching Hellsing I started watching more and more anime.
