cause i get really sad when a show ends and you start realizing "theres never gonna be a new episode of this again" and i get sad:/

I like Long running ones...but when they go too far..i get bored..unless the anime its pretty good....so i would say becuase if the anime is good its worth it.

I hate it when they drag them out, but I like them, probably because it gives me a chance to get really familiar with the characters and see more from them. unlike the shows that have only 12 or 13 episodes where you can find a character(s) you really like and once its done you are wishing for more...

One of the reasons.

Some other reasons are:

When an anime ends at only 12/24/26 episodes they usually has an ending that leaves to much unanswered and/or ends before the manga. I can't get up with any anime that is based on a manga that ends with something like 20 episodes without ending before the manga do (well there exists 1 or 2 but they are very few).

Some good longer anime

One Piece.

Bleach and Naruto has fallen into the trap you mentioned but they are still very good when there are not fillers.

Rockman EXE is awesome not including Beast +.

Getbackers, although not very long still longer then most.

Slayers is awesome, just hard to find english subs.

Yu-GI-OH is great.

Code Geass is great in both seasons.

The only long running series I like right now is One Piece.

Naruto was good up until the end of the Chuunin Exams. The Sasuke Retrieval Arc was sub par at best, but it showed some of the other minor characters in action, which was great. After that, it just took a serious nose dive. In the Anime, it was the 85 episode series of Fillers that killed it for me. In the Manga, it was just...I can't really think of a good word for it. But, they built up Akatsuki as being this hardcore group of dangerous shinobi only to have them beaten by a bunch of kids.

Bleach was awesome all the way through the Soul Society Arc...and then that ended. And my love for it has gone out the window since then. Some stuff was alright, but not too much.

Now, short running series are usually the better ones because they know when it should it stop. Yu Yu Hakusho ran for 112 episodes and I'm glad they stopped it where they stopped it. There was even closure. If they had continued it, it would have gotten ridiculous.

All of these short running series have closure: DeathNote, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Trigun. There's those insane and random ones like FLCL and Excel Saga that can never have a notable ending because it's just...so retarded.

But it really all depends on how the story plays out if it will be good as a long running Anime or if people think, "This should have ended a long time ago."
