Why do people like long running anime? - AnimeCrazy.net Forums

Most of my favorite anime have only a single season.

In my experience, most anime that last longer than a season or two quickly run out of ideas, and the plot begins to either wander aimlessly or becomes full of pointless filler.

So why is it that so many people recommend things like Bleach/Naruto/One Piece? Why is it that people complain about shows that end after completely wrapping up their plot?

I have never seen an anime that has gotten better in the second or third season than it was in the first season. So, can anyone name such a show? Can anyone name a multi-season anime that actually gets better over time rather than regressing into a never ending parade of nothing much in an attempt to milk more money out of its fan base?

One Piece.

Naruto and Bleach both regressed into that trap you mentioned.

And I like long-running storylines because then I don't have that empty feeling after the plot ended and it's all over quite so often.

It's true that some short-runners might lose their charm (lol) if prolonged, but some could easily have more interesting episodes.

Meh, the endings not important imo. Its all about the adventure in the middle. We all know how one piece, naruto and bleach will end

short series defiantly leave me depressed after they done... for ex. Elfen Lied... could have gone into much greater detail

Also, Bleach, imo, has gotten better with every season...the only popular long-runner that's actually gone from decent to god-awful is Naruto...

I think it has a lot to do with how much action a person likes...DBZ was a piece of crap, but the way they metered out the action in that show had everyone sitting through 20 minutes of staredowns and shocked-faces (thought dialogue incl.) just for 1 minute of pwnage and synopsis of the next episode lol...
