I think Ma-kun and the other doctor are doing
research on the same field. It's very hard
to get funding for any medical study even
more so if the head of the research team is
a murderer. Ma-kun didn't want the research he
has come so far in doing to be ruined because
his fiancee alerted the police. You will note
that Ma-kun doesn't look all that into his fiancee.
I figured since Ma-kun is a protogee and for him
career comes first. You remember he didn't
actually kill her, it shows that he has feeling for
her and only after the fact did he realize it.

wow detailed explanation post.. yeah u need to write lots of theses and research to climb up the medical doctor ladder, and all hospitals need funding. his fiance knew about the money trouble so ma-kun, being an elite/young/aspiring doctor, wanted to keep his future and job intact. that's why he couldn't kill him.
