I was talking with a few other people about the change in japanese doramas over the years, as you know their are many changes in diffrent decadeds in japan and america for example the liberal layed back 70s to the money power hungry conservative 80s. Well tv also changes in time. For example i would have to say Aishiteru, Shiroi Haru, Konkatsu no rikatsu are dramas this season that aren't about lame, sensless story lines and are doing well like Aishiteru is very popular in japan and has an over all higher rating then Atashinchi no Danshi, which is funny becaues Atashinchi no Danshi is very popular on this forum. However there is a big discussion on even dramas from the 1990s that are so diffrent from today. The 1990s has more machure family shows and alot of this probley had to do with economy being ruff in Japan like how it is, and dramas in the 1990s really reflecting on brining the family back together and people doing jobs and chasing after their dreams. Unlike today teens have more things and it seems more markets are looking at teens which really saddens me for everyone else....So who knows what will happen in the next decades. Thats is why I called this thread Aishiteru saving dramas of today from Atashinchi no Danshi. Aishiteru has the meaning of what real dramas are it brings people back together, discusses a contraversial topic and is daring. The characters and story are all real and reflect on real society Last edited by RyokoYonekura; 06-20-2009 at 08:39 AM. |

let me first say that i understand what your getting at about wanting more shows with meanings, but - and forgive me if i'm misunderstanding - it sounds like you're saying Ata-Danshi doesn't have any meaning. if that is true, then i'm sorry but you're mistaken. In Fact Ata-Danshi's meaning is exactly what you're talking about. Family. Yes, they may jazz it up here and there and make it a bit off the wall, but the mean is there all the same. More importantly it's about a mixed family with only 2 blood relations and having to deal with things that not other families (blood related families) have to deal with. Not to mention it's just a good "Worry free, forget your problems for an hour" show. lol ^.^ but like i said, if i had misunderstood your meaning, i apologize.

We have not totally erased "proper" dramas from our lists at all. It's just that dramas like AtaDan makes people feel more relaxed and there's a lot of "fun" in it. It adds in a little twist, a little "fantasy" but the values it tries to instill in the viewers is still there. Aishiteru might be more popular in Japan because they have had enough of the "fantasy-ridden" TV they are used to. But for us who don't live there (and want to get away from the real world), there's always something about dramas like AtaDan that draws us in.

I think both has its audiences for different purposes. Myself for one, would actually prefer meaningful dramas like aishiteru, but I definitely would not want to watch something as serious and depressing 100% of the time. Something like atadan is light hearted and places you into a fantasy world, so I'd say it's a relaxing TV show, something for stress relief. Whilst Aishiteru is more thought provoking, which is something that I wouldn't want to watch after rushing a deadline for example. It's the same reason why people read mangas and watch animes, fiction books. Anyway, I don't think fantasy dramas are at all overpowering the "real" dramas, I can think of quite a few very popular serious, real life dramas from the past few decades which received good ratings, yet I don't recall that many fantasy based ones. :P

~ Aiya ~ My original post disappeared. Stupid connection. Like TadokunoHana said, Atanshinchi no Danshi has a different way of showing family values compared to Aishiteru. Also I guess sometimes not everyone wants to watch a intense drama after a hard day at work. Don't get me wrong. I watched Aishiteru. It's a great drama, but it does get pretty intense and depressing. And after that I just want to watch something that brings lots of laughter like Atanshinchi. I think there are many factors attributed to X drama having more discussion over another drama. Dramas like Atanshinchi has a "younger" (put losely) age audience. Audience who like to discuss the drama and the actors. Truthfully, if you really read what is discussed in these threads (Mei-chan, Atanshinchi), there is quite alot of discussion of the actors rather than the drama iteself. So I think we appreciate these family dramas, but not necessarily show it through discussion. ![]()

@ RyokoYonekura I like Atanshinchi no Danshi because it's light and to be honest it makes me happy. I have nothing against "serious" family dramas that deal with the real world but if I wanted a taste of the real world I wouldn't be hanging around the forum waiting for the subs to come out. I have nothing against Aishiteru or dramas like it. I may even opt of watch it someday but not anytime soon. When pressures from real life, school, family, friends seem to be overwelming and stifling that I can't seem to breathe. I watch comedies because it takes me away from all that. I don't think AtaDan pretends to be anything other than a feel good series and that's what I like about it. |
