Often times on the road Internet JUST ISN'T available. In these situations I have a large collection of DVD's I have purchased from around the world (including japan) Many of the series I preview here...if I like them enough, i will make notes in my date planner and if I see them in the stores abroad I will buy them for when I travel. (now I must warn you to be careful of street vendors in Macow and Guang Zhou....I have gotten some BAD DVD's there...) ![]() best DVD's are in London, Korea, Tokyo, and USA at the conventions... but I often get the question from people .... WHY? Many of my co-workers at the circus get 'wierded' out by the fact that I buy DVD's as often as I do "if I can down load it for free." ![]() I tell them this... By me Buying the DVD's or Blue Ray's from the original (and actual not boot leg) producers I make sure that the hobby and entertainment I love continues. I help pay the actors and staff... (because as a person who works in show biz...I understand what that means. Of course it means more luggage...but -shrug-) ![]() So... Do you guys buy the dvd's of series you really like? Would you buy the dvd's if the production was commercially available to you? (I know Chinese paladin is available in the USA as an official release...as well as Fox Violant, seven swords, Moon Child, and many many others) ![]() do you buy dvd's from convention vendors from the series that you have viewed here that you really like? (you know for those long car trips):hehe: besides, Don't you JUST love the DVD feel and packaging? Menues, extra's and interviews... and in the case of "you're Beautiful" stickers, box, poster...etc etc... ![]() and in the case of chinese paladin & Chinese Paladin III the post cards, book ends, and necklace? |

depends if i rele care, i will i buy chinese movies and dramas i usually buy the rele large series like zhong ji yi jia but also, alot of dramas arent available with subs and if they are, the subs arent that great fansubbers put their heart into subbing and you can rele understand the subs regular subs dont rele work as well like i have moon child on dvd and the part where they speak in cantonese is totally off they translated "what did you say?!?!" to, "so you think you've got guts (actually a different word, but i dont want to use it)" also, the quality of fansubbed stuff is much better so if i care alot, sure i will but otherwise no. and also, i've bought dvd's from macau and guangzhou and the quality was pretty good so obviously, you dont know the right places to look and the right people to find

I no longer buy DVD's from street vendors in those cities...because thoe the packages look great and it is seems like a good deal I have had to throw away three out of five DVD's on more then one occasion because I would get them home or back to the hotel and discover that the movies were actually filmed with video cameras inside theaters, and not actually official 'legal' video. I really don't like having those kind of DVD's in my stash ;they just feel wrong. If I purchase DVD's from vendors...I purchase from actual Stores and not from street vendors. |

I usually buy the dvds I think are collectable as Koi said, or those which I like a lot. Personally I think your way of thinking is not wrong at all. If everyone watched for free and never actually purchased the dvd, there would be a problem. Of course it's a matter of money as well. There are people who don't have money to spare yet it's not fair for them not to watch good movies just because of that. So I'd say, those who can buy a dvd, they should do so at least with the movies he really likes. For example, I watched Battle Royale online years ago and I thought it was a masterpiece of its kind and I still think so. So when it was my birthday, I bought the dvd as a present to myself (a bit lame, I know, but my friends buy me useless things like clothes, accessories and stuff arg~)

Besides, It is really cool to spontaneously Throw a movie or series up on your Big screen or even in your lap top for viewing with Your friends. Especially if you are: at a party and want to share, (can't throw the internet on your t.v. in most places) On the road and have no wifi on a plane in a country or area with no wifi/internet acess. Or just really want to watch a series all the way through without having to hit download...button..sigh... My thing is when I'm sick I love to just watch the series and not have to worry about anything, most J-drama play episodes back to back and you can just watch 6 eps on one dvd no stopping. (it's great when you don't really feel well and you just want to enjoy a favorite series with no hassle) I also like to support the movie industry when I can; if I like something I buy it. If I get tired of it, I pass it off to a friend I think should/will enjoy it. (Or I drag someone else into the hobby kicking and screaming with it) I have made many new recruits with dvd's. It's easy to hand someone a DVD and say "DUDE! you ever see this? It's really cool! Watch it tonight!" (if they do, they ususally ask for more. ) |

I divide my budget for my stuff like DVD. I don't mind spending money as long as you are satisfied with it and it has a quality. Besides I like watching dramas many times and i don't have to wait for the dramas to load and it is sometimes broken. I don't buy in street vendors I usually buy in stores most likely in Tokyo. |
