Matsuzaka Tori and Takei Emi to star in "Kyou, koi wo hajimemasu" movie adaption!

Today it was announced that actress Takei Emi and actor Matsuzaka Tori are going to star in the live-action adaption of the best-selling manga “Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu“.

Takei is going to play the role of ‘Hibino Tsubaki’, a senior high school student who strongly believes in old customs such as keeping your virginity until marriage and has no confidence in dressing herself fashionable. However, her first kiss gets stolen by ‘Tsubaki Kyouta’ (Matsuzaka), a typical playboy who often teases her for being old-fashioned.

The manga is immensely popular among female high school students, who often call it their ‘love bible’. Even Takei is said to be a big fan of the manga and didn’t hesitate at all when she received the offer for the live-action adaption, which is going to mark her first starring role in a movie.

Takei commented, “‘Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu’ is like the only popular girls’ manga that hasn’t been adapted into a movie yet. I’m already happy enough that it is finally being adapted, but to actually being able to play the protagonist is a really big honor for me.” She continued, “I’m going to start 2012 with this very precious project and I’d like to exert myself with the utmost effort in order to create a beautiful and enjoyable love story for everyone.”



Matsuzaka already worked together with Takei in the dramas “GOLD” and “Asuko March!” He also already challenged some difficult roles, like in the currently screening movie “Antoki no Inochi” or the upcoming movie adaption of the popular drama “Shinzanmono“. However, “Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu” is going to be his first role in a real love story.

He commented, “It’s a very precious work, focusing on the ‘feeling of distance’ between Tsubaki, played by Takei Emi, and Kyouta. Kyouta’s character in the manga is really fascinating, from a guy’s point of view. Including the scenes without any lines, I’d like to play this role to the best of my abilities.”

The manga has yet to release its final volume, thus the movie is going to incorporate some original story elements. The filming is scheduled to begin in January.

The producer, who already worked on this adaption for several year, commented, “When I saw Takei, I knew that I found the perfect actress for the role of Tsubaki. Matsuzaka impressed me with his acting in ‘Antoki no Inochi’, but I’ve already had my eyes on him for quite a while now. I hope they can become the ‘golden couple’ of the Heisei era. I also would like it become THE national date movie of Japan.”

A release date for “Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu” has yet to be announced, but it’s supposed to open sometime in 2012.

Hmm.. don't know what to think about this. Matsuzaka Tori is love, of course. And I like Takei Emi as well. But - even though I like Kyou, koi wo hajimemasu - it can be kind of weird sometimes, and I think it'd be even weirder as live-action.^^

But I'll wait and see what the director will make of it and how the awesomeness that is Matsuzaka Tori will create the weird-thinking character that is Kyota.

Yeah I'm a bit hesitant about this one as well. But I'll give it a chance.

To be honest, I would prefer Keiko Kitagawa as the girl protagonist, but this is okay too. The guy protagonist is so HOT! I have a feeling that this will turn out to be very good

Nah, imo Keiko isn't fit to play Tsubaki at all. Also, since I don't really like Tsubaki much I don't wanna see one of my favorite actresses play her.

I hope they'll tone down Kyota's character a little. The

Of course he should be a little forceful, but just not too much. It would be so awkward to watch.^^

So I started reading the manga, but 71 issues was a bit too much for me. It starts off good. I hope the writers are able to condense it down into the usual 10 episodes. But one question that always drifts in the back of my mind is, "Why always high school mangas are made into dramas?" Then reality hits, "Oh, because most of the rest of them would have serious censorship required!" :-)

A still-cut from the live-action movie adaptation of “Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu” has just been revealed!

As reported previously, popular manga “Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu” will get a live-action movie adaptation starring Takei Emi and Matsuzaka Tori. In the movie, Takei will play “Hibino Tsubaki”, a nerdy high school girl who’s indifferent towards love, while Matsuzaka will be “Hibiki Kyouta”, a big playboy who steals Tsubaki’s first kiss.

Though it’s Takei and Matsuzaka’s third production together, they play the role of lovers for the first time in this film. Reportedly, their acting is so convincing that they’ve been called the “best couple in the Heisei era” (the current time period in Japan).

Matsuzaka commented, “Though I was born in the Showa era [previous era that ended in 1989], I hope we deserve to be called as the ‘best couple’,” while Takei said, “I would be happy if people looked at our third production together as the ‘best couple from the Heisei era’, just like Yamaguchi Momoe-san and Miura Tomokazu-san.”

According to Takei, she felt that the role “Tsubaki” is quite similar to herself. “I think that people could be sympathize with the parts where you gradually start changing when you fall in love, or where you become weaker after falling in love. I hope this movie makes people want to experience the same kind of love.”

“Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu” is scheduled to be released sometime this winter.

And they messed up the names~ calling Kyouta "Hibiki" instead of "Tsubaki". But that doesn't really matter.
Looking forward to see if their on-screen chemnistry is as good as they say.
