Question Re: Story Contest August Edition - Voting

In this contest, one thing voters frequently have to decide is -
how important it is for the story to be completed?

Each voter has to decide if it's okay to have a partially-completed story, like a few chapters,
or if it's more important to tell the whole story within the 3000-word limit.

I know it's hypocritical, but as a voter I generally think the story should be complete,
even though as a writer I have to admit I've submitted incomplete stories more than once.
Of course there are other considerations like,
how interesting is the plot?
or are you drawn in by the characters?
or does the story have great imagery?
In the AC Library contests, we don't take spelling or grammar into account due to many "ESL" contributors,
but organization and readability can be factors.
MY QUESTION IS - What seems important to y'all about the stories in the AC contests?
What aspect of a story, if done well, is most likely to get your vote?
Does the vampire story always win, or do you love a surprise ending,
or are you a sucker for action sequences?
Maybe ending a contest entry in a cliffhanger doesn't bother you -
or maybe it drives you nuts!

A related question: what is sure to turn you off from a story -
bad dialogue? Unicorns?
Writing that looks like an unbroken wall of words?
Too many long sentences - or too many short ones?

Anyways, inquiring minds want to know...
please comment below!

(p.s. - long post so no sig )

for me it doesn't matter on any these things, rather long sentences or short or anything else it all matters in the thoughts and heart of the author at that is the only thing that matters no matter what the annoying critic/s say about the stories at all.

Not asking about the critics though, EJ,
How do YOU decide which story to vote for?
(I mean *in general*, not in this specific contest for stories in August 2012...)

uhm only when the stories are interesting i guess

and also I don't mind huge cliff hanger endings
just go bugging the writer for the ending
